For me im mostly a self taught dancer and i have been dancing for only 4 and a half years. Two years ago i decided to join a professional class for a term which had a showcase at the end of it. For me it was so challenging because i wasn’t used to using the mirror and i had low self esteem looking at myself work on the moves before it was perfected, i was used to learning my own way and pace and not from someone else and watching myself dance before i knew it was right. I tried to reteach myself at home since it was an environment i was used to but i knew i had to get out of my comfort zone and push myself. I started to get better at picking up the dance but i still felt different from the other girls who had been dancing their whole life and taking classes instead of teaching themselves, after i realised that they have a huge advantage to me it made me feel a bit better but still i wanted to be a better dancer right then and there. My teacher said that for the showcase he wanted volunteers to choreograph their own dance, i was terrified but i stuck my hand up, at this point i hadnt really choreographed anything before either. I ended up doing it and i got 3 of my dance friends that i had met elsewhere to be in it. So it was my first time choreographing for multiple people too. I worked so hard at it because i wanted to improve but i actually had alot of fun doing it too. At the showcase we performed it and honestly it was so fun and i was so proud of myself for giving it a try, and it definitely helped me realise that i might be a different dancer to the other girls but i have my own strengths and the fact that i gave it a try even though i was less experienced and most of the other girls didn’t even want to try or didn’t put as much effort into it as me, i was very proud of myself ☺️
