RhythmEcho livestream demo+q&A Thursday and again Sunday
Hi I’ll be doing a YouTube livestream on RhythmEcho an hour before Owen goes on if anyone is interested. This will be feature complete v1 but still working with an artist on layout and graphics. I’ll focus mostly on production rather than performance and show you that while it is obviously great for wild stuff it can also bring a mix together in ways other tools can’t. https://www.youtube.com/live/0atuAw9yS4Y?is=J0Kaz-vBLafpIqY0

@Owen Palmer 🤣 Oh I gotta try it now. Mission accepted
Creative intent
I'm reading a book and came across this paragraph that resonates with me. "Forgive the repetition, but it's here for a reason. A lifetime of brainwashing has taught us that work is about measurable results, that failure is fatal, and that we should be sure that the recipe is proven before we begin" experiment with new knowledge is repetition, and we a fail often to find measurable understanding. Then we can trust our own judgement. The Book is the practice by Seth Godin.

@Owen Palmer I was recommended this book. I thought I would give it a go and so far it's not a bad read but with lots of the open statements much like a fortune teller, ie: can be applied to anything and anyone in the right light and weather conditions. No "Oliver" here, pinch of salt.

@Karlo Houwen agreed. That's said we all stand on the shoulders of those that have come before us. Knowledge is forgotten and rediscovered and sometimes refreshed with new understanding.
SIDECHAINING IS REAL !!! 👂👂
Let me explain 🤓 One of the complaints I often hear about using sidechain compression style techniques is that "it's unnatural"... or words to that effect (as if that even matters, but okay...). 🙄 But I've long said that, in reality, our hearing system is quirky, and *does do* something akin to a sidechain compression effect under certain circumstances... 🗜 For example, when someone speaks to you in a noisy environment, the ambient noise *can* seem to lower in volume as compared to the voice you're focused on. There's no doubt a psychological element to this (what we focus on inevitably affects our perception), BUT I've always suspected a physiological element to it... 🧠 ANYWAY, today I've experienced the perfect example. I'm working on a mixdown of a track with a big sub bass playing a sort of stabby off-beat pattern... 👍 But it's hot in here. I switched on the air con and the machine got quite loud for a moment... 🤔 When I solo'd the off-beat sub bass in my earphones, I noticed the sound of the air conditioner pumping rhythmically in time with the music. I'd never noticed that effect so clearly before. 🤯 It's REALLY stark, like someone put ShaperBox on the AC, triggered by the sub. 😏 I KNEW it. So sidechain compression-style effects DO mimic natural psychoacoustic phenomena. 😎

psychoacoustics are fascinating. There's so much to learn, use and manipulate. Inner ear compression happens with 5 elements at play. 2 membranes and 3 bones/cartridge just to get vibrations into the cochlear. Differences in time for one ear to the other allows us to locate the direction of a sound and all before the brain does it bit.
