LSAs in California vs the new BAR rule - what’s your compliant path?
This is brand new to me, but... Just learned that as of 10/1/25 the CA BAR is saying every online ad must now show the legal shop name (as on BAR), ARD #, and the BAR-registered phone. LSAs display a forwarding number by design and there’s no obvious field to show the ARD #, so this looks non-compliant out of the box for auto repair in CA. Questions: - Are you pausing LSAs for CA auto repair, or running with client risk acknowledgment until Google clarifies? - Any legit way to make LSAs show the BAR phone or surface the ARD # (without breaking profile name rules)? - Heard anything official from Google on a CA-specific solution/timeline? - What website, landing page or GBP tweaks are you pairing with LSAs to reduce risk in the meantime? Appreciate any insights! @Ryan Steinolfson

@Roxanne Escolano Appreciate the comment - this was my exact concern when I first posted. Quick update: I actually got on a BAR panel call and followed up via email. Their stance was way more practical than “pause everything.” What they confirmed: - Tracking/forwarding numbers are fine as long as they reliably reach the shop (ideally forwarding to the BAR-listed phone - which is usually the main line anyway). - For LSAs, they acknowledged the required BAR info can live on the website and/or Google Business Profile while the ad uses a forwarding number. - They didn’t say LSAs must have a URL, but they framed “no URL” as lower/moderate risk. So our move: We’re not pausing LSAs. We’re adding the BAR trio (legal name, ARD #, BAR phone) to all CA landing page footers and adding a landing page URL in LSA profiles (with UTMs) so compliance is covered and attribution stays clean. If BAR tightens guidance later, we’ll pivot - but for now, this path matches what they explicitly told us.
