It looks like I'll be hands off the guitar for a while, probably several weeks at least. I got a non-displacement fracture in my left wrist this Wednesday at Gabriel's workshop. How? I was putting my guitar strap around my neck and did something funky with the wrist, I think it was extreme inward flexion and the bone just snapped. It really stinks because I was getting some momentum going with these shell etudes and really enjoying playing my new blinged out Ibanez Guitar. The upside is that I think I may have caught onto an osteoporosis condition and can take steps toward correcting it now rather than later.

I've fallen into the trap of falling down rabbit holes chasing the improvisation bunny, waiting for perfection to emerge before uploading here. Putting an end to that today. I wanted to attempt a ballad and thought it would make for easier improvisation. In many ways it turned out to be the opposite. 🙃 I chose the Oscar Peterson/Prez version of the tune and am copying Barney K's comping style - just straight quarters, which I think fits the circumstances. This tune was taught to us by @Coach Gabriel Sebrian a few weeks ago as an exercise in alternate picking. @Philip Halton made a video that inspired me to try to learn it. This is a Brazilian piece in by H. Pascoal with elements of a samba-like rhythm - called baião’ - that has this cool groove — with a syncopated forward momentum and the way accents seem to “roll” through the bar instead of landing squarely like a straight samba. Anyway, there's a great recording by Fabiano do Nascimento - he plays it much much faster - that has some interesting elements that I borrowed and tried to incorporate. I have a looper (and you can tell that I dont really know how to use it) and so experimented with some stuff.
