Challenge DAY 12: Strategize the outcome
Holy smokes, we are almost there!! Today is a big day. We are thinking strategy. Consider where this short film could premiere: aim for Vimeo Staff picks? Perhaps a local film festival? Or your Youtube channel? This connects to your audience, and to the biggest Why of your film. Where would you envision this film playing? What does it need to get there? Who do you know that could help you share the message? Think about it, research some, dip into your LinkedIN to see who do you know where, and report what you have found below. Good luck!

It’s been my dream to have a Vimeo Staff Pick so I always want that. However there’s a local film festival here that I’d like to start off the festival run with and then send it to the major ones. I wouldn’t want the film to take too long on the festival circuit though as it’s meant to have an impact campaign running alongside its release. An independent screening can be organised in Accra too for all stakeholders to see! YouTube will be a much later decision.
Challenge DAY 9: Sound and Music
Day 9!!! We are moving so fast!! Today we are dreaming about the soundscapes of our films. How will it sound, where will it transport us to? Think about your film’s sound design. Is there a specific melody or an instrument, or an audible detail that would enhance your story, and give it a specific flavor? What audio elements (dialogue, music, ambient sound) would elevate your film? Is there a song that’s already arising as a theme? Comment below.

This is a good exercise as I haven't really thought about this although I'm a sound geek. I'm now thinking of using a lot of trap and afrobeat when things look gritty. I might just license some music from an artist called Shatta Wale. Also some of the trash heroes are underground artists as well so I'll explore what they have to offer.

@Thomas Jordan you found him! You should check out his feature with Beyoncé
Challenge DAY 8: LOCATIONS
Today is a fun exercise: to think about all the possible locations you could shoot in - your heroes’ homes, where will verite take place, and interview set ups (one could get really creative about it, and allow the backgrounds to enhance your story - think Ava Duvernay’s 13th). Choose 3 locations for your film. Physically or mentally or virtually scout the places you plan to shoot. Jolt down any notes. Extra points: what time of day is the best to shoot there? Good luck!

Most of my film will take place in and around the town called 'Borla Top'(translated on top of trash). There will be some verite shots as my lead character navigates through the tiny pathways and shared spaces in this slum. As a contrast though, I intend to film a scene in a plush seafood restaurant where my main character has lunch with a well to do entrepreneur.

@Thomas Jordan that will be freaking beautiful and hopefully it doesn’t get gentrified in the process
Challenge DAY 10: Shots and interviews!
It’s day 10 already!! The film is becoming more clear in your head, doesn’t it?? Today we are planning our shots and our lines. So: list out 5 key shots you want to capture that visually tell your story. Think about whether you want to be hand held or on a tripod, what shots - close ups or wides - would tell your story the best, and which specialty shots, such as a drone, would help your storytelling. If you have interviews to do: write down 5-9 strong questions for your subject(s) that dig deep into their unique perspectives and connect emotionally. Post it here. Good luck!

Shots and interviews! Underwater shots Sweeping shots of the town Aerial shots Medium close of our main character walking through the town and greeting diverse people who know him Close up of trash heroes going through the river for plastics At the plush restaurant - this will be a multicam setup of 5 cameras - intimate shots of food being eaten, water or drink being poured by both guests Questions: What's a typical day look like for you in this town? Who is your greatest role model? How did you get into the business of plastics? Tell us about your story of migration - why did you feel the need to leave the north of Ghana to come and hustle in the capital city? What are your responsibilities as head of this community? Do you have any regrets? What are some of your future plans for this work and community? Do you see a great transformation coming for this whole town and what will that mean for you?
Challenge DAY 6: LOGLINE TIME!
Hi all! We are almost half way through, and today is time to write (and rewrite, and rewrite until you kind of like it) your LOGLINE. Write a 1-2 sentence logline that summarizes the core of your STORY (so Not the topic or theme; Story as it will unfold on the screen). Logline typically contains a well crafted sentence about a protagonist/ a main person in the film, their big goal, challenge or struggle, what’s at stake, and why it’s special, or urgent, or unbelievable. It’s ok to fuss with the logline until you’re editing. Just write multiple versions and you will see how eventually it will start sounding close to how you are envisioning your story. Post that one here 🙏🏼 Good luck!

Still working on it ---- The film follows Dramani aka 'Soldier Soldier', the community head and designated 'trash hero' of Borla Town whose daily responsibility is to recycle the plastic waste that flows in from the city.
