One of those amazing mornings where you come home on a huge high - multiple sightings of this magnificent Brown Goshawk, and a delightful Sacred Kingfisher who posed so beautifully for me. I would have loved a bit of action, but neither budged from their perches (until both flew away in the wrong direction for a shot), so I had to settle for a couple of classic portraits. Still very happy with that - especially the Goshawk, a notoriously difficult subject!

As bird photographers, it's hard to avoid raising ISO - but do we need to avoid it to retain image quality? Not if you follow a few basic principles 😉 https://www.flyingparrot.au/post/high-iso-bird-photography-don-t-be-afraid-of-noise

Rufous Fantail 😍 So so pretty but jolly tricky to photograph I have to say. It took some serious perseverance to get a clean shot 😛. Luckily they are quite amicable and will flit around you repeatedly but geez, so quick and usually in deep shade.

I'm hosting a tour in Mallacoota in November - it's such a great spot with no shortage of photographic opportunities ... and a ton of birds! 1: Early morning herons on the lake 2: varied Sittella 3: Australian Hobby 4: Pair of young White-bellied Sea Eagles in high key (you can tell they are younger by the brown colour on the wings - fully grown adults are grey.
