Use the Work to Win More Work ✅
I just closed a $10k + Affiliate Keynote Speaking Gig in Switzerland... And I'm in the process of closing $20k - $40k worth of surgical robotics branded content. One quick learning I'd love to share is that you can often use the work you're actively doing [pretestinonial] to close future clients. This pared with consistent content creation to build trust and establish authority in a niche is killer. Using the work to win the work also creates a sense of urgency and FOMO when they feel like they need to work around the process to get access to your services (overcoming high friction). So here's how I infrom folks of my services, value, price levels, and why they need to wait: LinkedIn Pinned Link -> HERE Loom Video to Soft Sell Client [Pre Numbers] -> HERE So let me know your big brain ideas in the comments

@Joseph Isosaki some thoughts on pricing. Something to mull over, is there a case for making the annual price a steal? (so actually cheaper than paying monthly). Calvin has done this with this AI community. $29/m or $199/year (and the yearly VIP option includes more bonuses) If someone is interested in signing up, a really attractive annual offer could well tip them to choose that, which is good for them (in for 12 months, one off purchase, can focus getting the most out of the membership) and good for you (they won't churn month to month, you can invest your energy/time into helping them knowing that, and you get the cash up front to fund growing the business etc.) Interested in other's thoughts on this one, just an idea :)

@Joseph Isosaki Gotcha! So, one more thought experiment (again, purely throwing ideas around here, please feel free to ignore!) What would it look like if you decided to use that third tier (the VIP) one as a downsell for Premium? So… offer an annual option to pay for essentially the same as premium (maybe with some added bonus or some such, but not anything that demands more of your time) And then handle your high ticket offer separately. I'm looking at that gap from free to VIP and wondering if the VIP option, with its 1:1 time, kinda represents a different offer, that will naturally attract fewer leads than the 'Premium' option, and is also aimed at people at a different stage of understanding or dealing with their problem (that you help solve)? So an alternative is to use both 'tiers' as different offers for premium, which could encourage more sales, with all the usual psychology of people comparing two offers etc. I'm imagining someone who's currently a free member, seeing the next step for them (in most cases) as 'Premium', then seeing two options, one of which is a one-off investment for the year, and represents very good value, but also a monthly option if they would prefer (in these cases, the annual option usually outsells the monthly, as Calvin has found with his AI community). Then your high ticket 1:1 offer is the next level they can ascend to, which would likely be based on interactions at the premium level? And that could be handled separately (for example, via a 'class' that they could purchase for one year of VIP).
Jon Hilton - Navigating financial pressure/building a sustainable future
🐣 Origin: About 5 years ago I gave up full time employment to focus on my business - helping Microsoft Web Developers via my blog, private community (not Skool) and online courses. The challenge is, that business has never quite caught fire. Despite having a reasonable number of email subscribers (6,000), the courses are low-ticket and only bring in the occasional sale. To support myself and our family (3 kids) I'm juggling several consulting gigs, and some freelance work as a writer for technical blogs. However, those gigs don't feel like they're building anything sustainable, eat up a lot of time, and only just pay the bills each month. So I've found myself flip-flopping slightly, uncertain where to focus my energy/efforts to build something more sustainable. But I love writing, helping people, and have strong communication skills which I lean on every day. I stumbled upon Skool a couple of months ago and have since launched my (free) Skool community for Dev Builders (software developers who are building a SaaS/App and need to market it). I also have my own tiny SaaS which is about to go live (as a plugin for the Kit App Store). I feel I have the skills, experience and insights to help people. It's just that the need to get the bills paid every month, and diluted focus, is making it hard to build something sustainable. My Skool community feels like the right thing to focus on, and could be the start of a more sustainable business. So I suspect it's a case of giving it enough energy and focus while juggling everything else. 🔮 Desired Future State: - Zero worries about getting the bills paid every month - The ability to do more with the kids, take them on more adventures - No need to worry about finances when deciding whether to take opportunities - Dev Builders (my community) engaged, and thriving - A sustainable business, enabling me to help more people 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Why: A few years ago our daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness. She has since recovered, but struggles at times with the emotional impact of the trauma she's been through.

2025-10-31 Phew, so a lot can happen in a few months on Skool huh? Maybe Skool time is different to regular time 🤔🕓 As it is, I have had a great Skool month. I caught up with @Othmane Boumzebra, who encouraged me to up my networking game. Off the back of that I've chatted with 4 people this month I wouldn't have otherwise. I've also realised there's a great opportunity to do something with tiers for my .NET Web developers group. The best part being it feels like it will really help my members solve a tricky problem. Essentially, the problems are: - Too much content online - Hard to know what's actually useful vs. what's hype - No time to sort through 100 blog posts and 50 YouTube videos - Learning in isolation is hard The classic "I have more information than I could have ever dreamed was possible, now how do I actually get sh*t done?!" So the rough plan is this: - Float an idea I've had that could form the basis of a paid tier ('lunch and learn' sessions every month) - These sessions would focus on topics proposed by the community, and be very interactive (everyone clubs together to explore the subject, and bring their own experiences) - If I get 30 people DM to say they're in (waitlist) I'll launch it At the same time I'm thinking of running a live webinar (promoted via my mailing list) which brings in more free members to the group (join the community to watch the webinar, which we'll run via Skool Webinars) So, new members joining for the free webinar, paid tiers launching soon after (based on conversations within the community, so essentially co-created by the community). Then affiliate offer for members (invite people to the community for free, if they upgrade to paid you get affiliate commission). This direction feels good just now, looking forward to getting the ball rolling right away :)

"Behind on communication but high on caring for your all" 🤗 Reminds me of a fav quote from The Divine Comedy's Songs of Love.. "Fate doesn't hang on a wrong or right choice, fortune depends on the tone of your voice" Appreciate you @Joseph Isosaki and sooo excited to see how freemium works out in this group!
What Kind of Parent Do You Want to Be?
I've seen some really beautiful "Find Your Next ✅" post in this community, but a surprising few of them allude to what kind of father or mother you aspire to be. One of my greatest joys has been dropping off my kids at school for the last couple years. I always do the morning routine to help my wife catch up on sleep. Showing up for my 4 little ones daily and using this short 40 minute window to reframe their day has been such a privilege. I don't tell them to gave a good day. I always say, "make it a great day." I want to be a father who makes the most of these little moments... So I'm curious what kind of parent do you want to be?

@Chanie Twersky love this 🙌 I sometimes project forward to them being all grown up, and it seems a long way off and incredibly soon, all at the same time. If they still love being around us, especially at those times when they're discovering their own independence, then we've done something right!
