Step by Step Drawing
I'm thinking it would be nice for people to see how I get my sketches underway. I've created a step-by-step instruction and the only place I could find to create it was in the classroom. So there's a new lesson in the classroom and it's my step-by-step instructions on how I created the sound shell drawing. #Step by Step - Napier Sound Shell

New member intro
I've been painting on & off for decades. In the last 3yrs I've become interested in Urban Sketching. I just like an excuse to go outside & focus. Not overly interested in "getting good", just doing it for pleasure & am curious what/how other people draw

great sketches, i love the idea of having coffee with your friends and sketching. My group tends to have coffee afterwards.
Scanning Sketchbooks
i used to photograph my sketches and post them as I did them and i have written about that before and my concern then other people might try to take those images and reuse them as their own, especially on some of the public social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. However, for my own benefit I have been scanning my images to 600 DPI to try to get a high-quality image of all of my sketches. It takes awhile to do this and I do have a dedicated printer scanner that does this for me. The trick of course is to make sure that you hold the paper down and let the machine do its job. I use this machine (Brother MFC J6940DW) for scanning. this is an A4/A3 printer and scanner, which I need for architectural drawings and scans. I also have a specialist A4 photo/slide scanner that scans up to 2400dpi, but i'm happy with the scans I have. have a look at the images below, do you think they show the sketch and the texture of the paper?

@Steve Atencio I have been tempted and I have also tried sketching over photos. I like the live feel of the sketches. Because i know i'm not fixing them, i know i have to draw well. I went to an exhibit of the work of John Constable and his sketches were not at all like his paintings (https://www.libson-yarker.com/exhibitions/good-prospects-landscape-drawings-from-our-racks/markshall-essex), they were simple sketches that captured the big issues of the scene.

@Diane Finlayson I don't rework my sketches, i never got used to reworking the sketches. I have tried using Procreate or Morpholio Trace to sketch over photos, but sketchbook is totally live.
Saturday Walk
I went out for a walk on Saturday to find something to catch. This is a iconic part of the town where I live, and it's called the Soundshell. The Soundshell, and its collonaded surround, was built in 1935 following the 1931 earthquake. Designed by Napier architect J T Watson, The Colonnade and Sound Shell were projects undertaken by the Thirty Thousand Club. "It was the Thirty-Thousand Club that funded the Sound Shell, dancing area and colonnade. The Art Deco Sound Shell was the first to be built in the country and it trumpeted Napier's intention not just to rise from the rubble and ashes of the earthquake and fires, but to reinvent itself in the process. Not from Brighton Beach did this design come - but, from tinsel town, from Hollywood. And with it went the Veronica Sun Bay, a colonnade, three grand arches - including the so-called 'New Napier Arch' and, most daring of all - an outdoor dancing area. The citizens of Napier paid for the later by 'purchasing' individual paving slabs. Napier was being restyled as a modern city of the future, a place for fun and pleasure."
