Hi everyone! 👋🏾 I’m Cinga, and I’m from the Eastern Cape, South Africa 🇿🇦. I’m really excited to be part of this filmmaking journey and to connect with people who share the same passion for storytelling. I chose filmmaking because I genuinely love storytelling and the power that stories have to connect people, inspire, educate, and give a voice to different experiences. Coming from the Eastern Cape, I’ve seen firsthand that there aren’t always many opportunities or platforms for aspiring filmmakers and creatives. But at the same time, I believe there is so much talent here and so many stories waiting to be told. South Africa has countless untold stories, especially from communities and people whose experiences don’t always get the opportunity to reach wider audiences. I want to be part of changing that. I want to tell stories from the Eastern Cape and South Africa that can reach people locally and around the world stories that showcase our people, our culture, our struggles, our beauty, and our everyday experiences. I’m here to learn, grow, meet other creatives, collaborate, and hopefully turn some of these stories into films that people can see and connect with. Over the next few weeks, we're making some major upgrades inside The Filmmaker's Journey. But unfortunately, a lot of you won't be here anymore for that. The thing is, after working with brands that 99% of filmmakers say they "dream" of working with, one thing has become very clear to me: Technical skill matters, but having a creative eye is what truly makes you a filmmaker people rely on. For a long time, this community has been a place for filmmakers to learn, explore ideas, and improve their craft. But that isn't the extent of how I want to help you here. I want to make sure this community becomes much more focused on helping members actually move forward with their projects. That means creating a space where you get the value that helps you work through the problems that keep filmmakers stuck. How to structure a story so it holds together. How to develop a writing style that feels natural on screen. How to edit in a way that keeps an audience captivated. How to make stronger creative decisions. How to overcome the blocks that stop an idea from becoming a finished film. And yes, how to use those skills to create better opportunities and work toward your income goals. Because making money with filmmaking is not the hard part. The harder part is developing the foundational skillset that makes your work stand out and makes you difficult to replace. Your taste. Your perspective. Your way of seeing and solving creative problems. That's what makes your work recognizable. And that's what can make people choose you over someone who technically knows how to do the same things. The goal is to help bring more meaningful movies into the world, and to make this community genuinely useful for people who are committed to that process. I went to an art gallery the other day and I felt like a kid in a candy store as my imagination ran wild while browsing through various art works of different artist. It reminded me that I should make it a habit as a filmmaker to explore different art forms to expand my imagination. Everyone is a storyteller in their own unique ways. Art is a universal language.
