Abstract blocks / panel's
Just thought I would share some of what I have been up to, in my friends art studio in Tunisia. I had a complete break yesterday Touring the atlas mountains in a private 4x4 with agneskia, our guide. Who is the partner of kristov, my new artist friend. But these are some panels I have been working on, which I am hopefully combining into a larger canvas.

Sketches have led to other things.
While here at the pool side coffee bar, I got chating to a guy who saw me sketching palm trees earlier, and asked if he could see them. It turns out he is a local artist, and was commitioned to produce all the many paintings in the hotel. He paints what he describes as contemporary modern abstract. His paintings contain small clues, which he leaves people to interpret themselves. I was chating to him for ages, and he offered to give me a guided tour of his work, hanging in the hotel. Five floors! 2 1/2 hours later he showed me his temporary art studio, which the hotel has provided him with, as they are gradually refurbishing parts of the hotel, and have commissioned him to do some more paintings to display He gave me a quick demonstration of how he does them. Once he has an idea he produces a painting really quickly, or allows it to develop. Some of which he signs across them vertically, or horizontally. His signature becoming part of the painting. A really interesting guy. As Julies spending some time with her friends at the Spa tomorow, He's invited me to join him in his studio tomorrow. And offered to show me and give me some hints on different techniques. I may even have a go myself.

@Caroline Turner it is now just just over 10.am here, and after an early breakfast we have been in the studio since 8 am just over 2 hours, and having fun. We have decided to stop for coffee. My new polish artist friend, I still can't pronounce his name, has said I'm welcome to photograph and share any of his paintings, hanging on the hotel. There are over 70 of them. But has requested I don't share any of the ones in the studio as they are new commissions, and havnt been hung or displayed yet. Which is fare enough. They do look good though. And they only take him about an hour to do. He's done 3 already, including showing me how to paint them. I asked him the type of paint. He laughed and said plastic! But what he meant was acrylics. But fortified ones, as they are a bit thicker, and easier to layer. He does also add some oils to some of his paintings for specific detail. And acrylic marker pens. Some He seals with a clear spray varnish to protect them. Especially if he has layered some panels on top. Here's some examples of his older paintings, but the new ones are amazing.

Time for coffee again. And a brandy to keep us going. Had a fab day so far. Have learnt lots of small new techniques. One involves experimenting with geometric shapes. Using a thin streched canvas, which he has an adjustable frame for. painting various designs, with complimentary colours, and then cutting out sections in various geometric shapes. Using a pre prepared template to ensure consistency. Then arrange them on a prepared canvas. Painting an outline on them to blend them into a large canvas, and seal them. Another was quite interesting. Do you remember at school Using crayons to cover a paper in different colours, colour the whole page on top with black, and then scratch of pictures and designs with a needle, pen, or anything sharp. We'll you can do the same thing with acrylics by layering them, and scratch in designs on the top layer, do long as it's still slightly tacky. You can also combine both the above to get some great effects. Aparenly he got his art degree in Paris, and later worked with a couple of artists, to gain more experience. He than chise the contemporary, modern, abstract form for his own work, although he uses other styles, and has joined with a few people in France who he trained with, and paint similar paintings and styles, and formed their own art movement. Fascinating.
Weekend prompt
This weekend, I want to give you full permission to play first, “be good” later. If you’ve had a busy week, here’s your gentle nudge: carve out 20–30 minutes just for you, your paint, your papers, your glue, your scraps of fabric… and zero pressure to make anything finished. Here’s your simple Weekend Play Prompt: 1. Grab a page (or small canvas) and cover it with scraps, newspaper, torn book pages, patterned paper, tissue, or anything that’s lying around. 2. Pick just two colours of paint and loosely block in shapes , circles, blobs, arches, little houses, whatever wants to appear. 3. Add one tiny character or symbol that feels like you today, a tiny figure, a bird, a teacup, a flower, a baby, a heart, anything. No rules, no “right way”… just layers, marks, and curiosity. When you’re done (or halfway through!), share it in the community so we can cheer you on: - Post a photo of your page - Tell us in one sentence: “This is how I want my creativity to feel this year.” Let’s fill the group with messy, imperfect beginnings rather than waiting for “perfect” finished pieces. Who’s in for a weekend of playful making? 💕

Arrived here in Tunisia, so limited with my sketchbook. But I will play, and have fun. 🤣 Probably regret it later. 😎xx
Tree bark.
I have been working on some forest ideas, and I have collected some bark. I'm hoping to use the real bark to add some texture on the trees. I'm not sure if it will work, but I'm going to experiment with it. I'm of to Tunisia tomorow, so it may have to wait until I get back. But hopefully the warm weather, meeting up with friends, and the all important Tunisian coffee ☕️ may give me some inspiration. I have my sketch book 📖 ready and packed. 😎
New work
New 6x6 mixed media on cradled wood canvas. Have been using Derwent Inktense pencils to deepen color on my backgrounds. I have had them for years, and, essentially did not like them. Glad I kept them around now. My first show is April 4th, Saturday before Easter Sunday. I prefer to do Spring in non-conventional colors, and lesser known, deeper quotes. Love seeing everyone's work!!
