Most people point to the coat of many colors 🎨 But the coat was a symbol, not the cause. Jacob grew up in a family shaped by favoritism. His father favored one son. His mother favored another. From the beginning, Jacob learned what it felt like to be chosen and what it felt like to be overlooked. He grew up in a family where parents showed clear favoritism of one child over the other. And the most obvious reason is this 👇 👨‍👩‍👦 Joseph was the son of Rachel, his beloved wife. ❤️ The woman Jacob loved at first sight. 💚 The woman he worked fourteen years for. ⏳ The woman he waited years to have children with. Joseph was not just another son. He was a living reminder of what Jacob had loved and what Jacob had lost. Now look at the family dynamic among the brothers 👀 ⚠️ Simeon and Levi brought violence and destruction on the family. ⚠️ Reuben betrayed his father and broke his trust. ⚠️ Judah walked away and built a life among the Canaanites. Chaos followed them. Joseph was different. 👂 He listened. 📜 He followed instructions. 🧭 He was honest. 🤝 He was trustworthy. Even as a teenager. Joseph didn’t just wear a special coat. He carried responsibility. He reminded Jacob of Rachel. So yes, Jacob loved Joseph more. Day 19 is about what comes after the wilderness. Jesus does not leave the wilderness weak. He leaves in power. Luke 4:14 says Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit. The same Spirit who led Him into testing now empowers Him for purpose. The wilderness was not punishment. It was preparation. But notice this. Power does not mean life gets easier. Right after this, Jesus is rejected. Questioned. Threatened. Victory over temptation does not remove opposition. It prepares you to stand in it. Read slowly. Sit with the truth that strength is formed in resistance. When we think about King David, most of us go straight to his victory over Goliath. ⭐ Strength ⭐ Courage ⭐ Victory ⭐ Calling That is the moment we remember. But what is crazy to think about is that David never even tells us about that battle. We do not learn that story from David or from anything he personally wrote in Scripture. The story of David and Goliath comes from the book of Samuel, written by someone else. When David does write, he does not focus on victories at all. 🙏 He focuses on weakness 🙏 He cries out for mercy 🙏 He admits fear 🙏 He repents of adultery 🙏 He owns his sin 🙏 He shows a deep and constant dependence on God David never built his relationship with God in the moment he defeated a giant. He built it... 🕳️ In caves 🕳️ In failure 🕳️ In repentance 🕳️ In a desperate need for God’s presence That matters. Because many of us come to God hoping for a David and Goliath moment. ✨ The breakthrough ✨ The win ✨ The story people will celebrate But God often seems far more concerned with who we are becoming than with what others will remember us for. David’s public legacy was "victory". David’s private faith was surrender. And maybe that is the reminder some of us need today. God does not just want to use us in our strengths. He wants to meet us in our weaknesses and change us there.
