"Bass Bites" May 5th
Posting this a day early cause I'm getting out of town for a couple days. This one is a little more "fun" and funky. Working these fill concepts over a Dom7 chord. Let me know what you think! Beginners just work on getting this in one key. More advanced players try multiple keys.

Today's Live Practice Session
Here's the video from the scheduled live practice session. Hope this gives you some ideas for yours. I expand on the lesson I posted yesterday as well as get into some pick practice. Let me know what you think.

Traveling bass amp
So here it is. As you can probably tell from my icon, my wife and I spend a lot of time outdoors. When I bought my bass and amp (Hartke b30) several yrs ago, I bought an amp for practicing and maybe; some playing with friends in small areas... basements, hotel rooms etc. I had no desire to bring my electric bass and amp on trips as we typically camped in a tent... ie no electric. 2 yrs ago, we purchased a camper and are traveling more, so the bass comes with us. I've been using a headphone amp to practice with but, one of my friends is thinking about bringing his guitar and relearning how to play and another I see occasionally(who is actually a songwriter and musician) might like to have some bass added..Thinking I'd like to have a smaller amp to use in the campground..lighter, less room in the truck/camper and not loud.. thoughts?

@Bob Heinemann not sure.. I was more thinking smaller size and sound quality. Does me no good to get a smaller amp if sound is not good, I'd just stick with the Hartke. I've looked at the smaller Fender Rumbles and the more expensive Laney, MarkBox and Orange Crush online. So far, I have not gotten to try any of them. I'd be able to justify a $100-150 purchase for the use, size and weight savings.. the more expensive boxes would be a push and I'd really have to sell it to my wife..lol

Bass Brands
I'm curious to know which brands of bass everyone is using and is it 4 or 5 strings? I'll start, my main bass, the one I play the most, practice on, have my lessons on is a 4 string Fender Jazz Bass. I also have 2 yamaha basses, a black motion-b short scale bass, and a new active bass I'd like to sell. I kicked it off please chime in. I'd like to know what you use are using.

I have a Fender Jazz bass. Bought it in 2001. We have become acquainted since I retired almost 2 yrs ago. I am enjoying playing and learning. I like the sound, though I don't really have anything to compare it to. Which is ok, getting GAS at this point in my life probably isn't a good thing.. I have plenty of other toys. Although, my amp is a Hartke B30, too big to take camping, too little for playing out. Not there yet, but...
Back into it.
I'm retired for about two years now and decided to keep a promise I made to myself years ago. About 40 years ago I played in a rock band now would be 70's covers. But life happened and I had to put it down and get a real job. Been taking lessons locally for 3yrs now. I've learned so much. My teacher plays bass in a local blues band. He said he's going to invite me to his bands practice in the spring. I'm learning a few of their songs. My advice is to play everyday if you can. Play something a few songs, scales, modes, pentatonics just play something. Stay humble and just have fun with it.

Retired about the same time frame. Bought my bass in 2001, thinking I would learn how to play while the kids were with their mom etc. Had a friend who was going to teach me how to play and jam with... Unfortunately, he passed after 2nd "lesson".. Yeah, walked away.. discovered canoe paddling and never looked back. When I retired my wife said I need to do something to keep the mind active, here I am. Learning to play, read music and doing things I should have done 20+ yrs ago. All good!
