@JaNesia Haynes great question & I can tell you how I personally did it even though some may disagree or feel some type of way but it worked for me and I ended up on the local news as well by having one of the business shops in our town. I started in a salon & learned both long & short hair (already cut my own & about 40 friends for years but mainly clipper cuts) so being more diverse in my skill levels allowed me to cater to most everyone. I then (being on a commission based pay) would have my regulars come to my house and I’d cut them for the price the salon charged but would tell them not to tip so it saved them money while I made almost double! That allowed me to free up time in the salon to take more new customers while I cut all my regulars at home. After a couple years of doing that I was approached about joining an up & coming new barbershop which i decided to do & grew there as well until eventually the shop fell apart due to personal reasons from the owner and I ended up inheriting the business eventually and that’s how I ended up with my own shop. Now I actually prefer to work solo instead of dealing with the headaches of my own shop and babysitting other barbers but if that’s your dream I’d say go for it! There’s many ways to go about it but I can only speak from my experience! I wish you all the best luck!!
