Video call sessions
Good evening everyone 👋 I’ve set up 2 new video call sessions to help us get more out of this community: 1️⃣ Ask Me Anything (AMA) – Next Tuesday - Your chance to ask any questions you have about stroke prevention in a friendly, informal chat. 🧠💬 2️⃣ Monthly Meet-Up – Last Sunday of each month - We’ll check our blood pressure together (if you have a cuff), share tips, and set goals for the month ahead. Most importantly, it’s a chance to support each other and build a strong community. 💓🌱 👉 If these sessions are helpful, we’ll make them regular—and may add more in future - let me know your thoughts. 👉 Know someone who’d benefit? Please invite them to join us using the link in the members section.

hi nik do you have times for these
Sunday Vegspiration 🥦
Add Cruciferous Veggies to Your Plate Today! They are not fancy or hard to find—just everyday favourites like broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and kale. These vegetables are packed with sulforaphane, fibre, and antioxidants, which help: reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure and protect your blood vessels All of which are key to stroke prevention and overall cardiovascular health. My personal favourite is roasted broccoli 🥦 crispy edges, a touch of olive oil, and a sprinkle of sea salt. Which of these veggies do you enjoy, and how do you prepare them?

How can we make this community incredibly valuable to you?
I've been thinking about things we can do to make this community really valuable to everyone that might want to slash their risk of a stroke. I think the alternate daily prevention tops will be a great start. Are there other things we can add too? One thing I thought about is having a monthly "Ask Anything" session when we can all go on and ask any questions or queries we have about strokes and stroke prevention. I'll do my best to answer what I can and between us we can probably answer most things The other idea I had was to do a monthly "Blood pressure check and intention setting session". We'd all log on to a video call and check our BP at the same time (or not if you don't have a monitor). We could then talk about what 1 change we're going to make that month to help reduce our risk (e.g. walk 8000 steps, or eat more veg). Over the course of the month we could post updates and keep each other accountable to our goals. What do you think? I'm sure you have better ideas then me and I'm up for giving almost anything a go!

thanks every Welcome I believe stress was a significant contributor to my stroke. I've done quite a bit of investigation since then, and I try to find time to clear my thoughts and get out of my own head. I completely agree with what Nik says about the 10-minute walk. I like to put on music or a podcast—something to take me out of my head, not work or being a dad. I've tried things like sound baths, but they just weren't for me. Maybe it was the wrong place or the wrong time for my first go. A lot of people swear by it. Exercise is a really good place for everybody, even before a stroke. There was a new start at my gym this morning—a 63-year-old who hasn't exercised properly in 20 years. His daughter's getting married next September, and now he wants to be his best for her. I told him, " Don't forget about yourself?. I do circuit training so I don't have to think about anything. I just turn up and do as I'm told. It's quite intense, but it does the job. Nik, you know I will always be thinking of the technical angle whenever I'm doing anything after spending 25 years in technology. Everything we're doing in these groups and channels, especially when we contribute, is all data, and it's valuable. I'd love to maybe invite one or two of my techie people to the group for a couple of reasons. One, there are a couple that spring to mind that I think need saving for them selfs, and taking off that list of 1,000,000. Also, how do we capture all this rich information and give it back?
