I've had trouble over the years with not realizing there was a better tool than what I was using and it made all the difference.

@Ossie Osmond I agree. Being a novice I have trouble not only knowing what tools are useless and just in the store for the seller to make a quick buck and which are truly going to help me. There are some tools out there aimed at DIY'ers claiming they do a bunch of things which they don't. I've fallen for the gimmick more than once unfortunately.

@Ossie Osmond great idea. I was just going to wing it but planning it out first will be so much better. If we do it, I'll post some pictures.

@Ossie Osmond that's amazing!
Know your shut off!
No matter what the plumbing problem you tackle, it's always good to know where to close the water supply in case something goes wrong. Don't wait until you need it one day. Many plumbing jobs will require you to start here! Have you had an emergency situation where everyone are running around like headless chickens to find the stop valve. Trust me you don't want to be, water damage can cause major damage!!

Great advice! Years ago I tried to replace an outside faucet. I couldn't get it off even chipping away at the outside wall. I left it without thinking. Later that night walking into the bedroom the entire floor was soaked! It had been running into the wall for hours. Had to tear out all the carpet etc. Was a huge mess. I always turn off the water now. And when I turn it back on I walk around inside listening. You can hear it running if it's leaking in the wall.

@Ossie Osmond many factors conspired against me that weekend. Lol

@Ossie Osmond looking back I wish I was in a group like this to bounce ideas back and forth. Yes the solder kept beading up and dripping off into the wall. I didn’t know any better and just kept trying both days. I was so exhausted in the end. Was over twenty years ago now.
