Attempt 2 - Vocals & Guitar
Been tweaking the compression, EQ, and a touch of chorus (with subtle harmonies) to get a fuller vocal sound. Did I accomplish it? I’ve listened to this track so many times I think I’m “ear blind” now 🤣

@Nicky Brenner thanks! I actually hadn’t thought about EQ’ing the reverb 😅. Do you have a go-to approach like low/high cuts, or is it mostly about tweaking by ear? Great catch on the breaths too, that’s something I didn’t even consider. Really appreciate you taking the time to point these out.
Vocal Editing Tip!
Do Not over value the visual representation of the pitch- trust your ears first.

I used to rely too much on the visual pitch.. this totally reframes it for me. Appreciate the insight!
Why I’m Rethinking How I Tune Vocals After This
Huge thanks for putting together the Melodyne class! I had a blast watching the videos. I really appreciated how you emphasized making vocals perfectly imperfect. That idea hit home for me. My biggest struggle has been obsessing over perfection instead of enhancing what’s already there. I’m 1000% guilty of flatlining every pitch and ending up with full-on T-Pain vocals when that’s not even the goal. I also liked how you tuned in context rather than just pitch-snapping everything.. something I’ve always defaulted to without thinking. I didn’t even realize you could use Melodyne as a VST until this year 🤦🏻‍♂️, so I’ve got some experimenting to do. Honestly, the course was worth every penny. I’m excited to keep learning from you. Thanks again for putting this out there!
Can't get the vocals to sit right for the life of me
I laid down some rough vocals for this track and I’m trying to teach myself how to mix/EQ my own voice so I can really understand how it all works. Right now, I’m mostly experimenting and tweaking settings. My current chain looks like this: 1. Melodyne → GSnap (autotune) 2. TB Parametric EQ (broad frequency shaping) 3. TB Compressor 4. TB DeEsser 5. TB Parametric EQ (fine adjustments) 6. LoudMax (leveling) On the instrumental, I also used TB Parametric EQ to carve out space for the vocals and roll off some lows to fight muddiness. Still very much learning, but would love any thoughts on the mix or the approach.

Thanks, Nicky! I agree with you. Listening back, the vocals do feel a little thin compared to the big, full sound you hear in hit tracks. I’ll work on tightening the compression and adding some body so they sit stronger in the mix.

Round 2
Mixing tip!
Try not to solo individual elements too much while you're mixing- it's important to mix in context
