I'm away from today until Sunday... I'm going on retreat in Wiltshire with Daisy Featherstone, a fellow VITA sister. Four days of sexuality work, embodiment and dance, in a house full of women I've never met. Let me explain what that actually means, because I know for some of you this will be a completely new world. VITA is Layla Martin's training for sex, love and relationship coaches. I've been on it for two years and I'm doing my majors in Life Transitions and Conscious Dating. It's serious training.. trauma-informed, grounded in neuroscience as much as anything ancient. Daisy came through the same programme 7 years ago, which is how I know her. The work itself is about your relationship with your own body and your own pleasure. It's got nothing to do with performance, or how you look from the outside, or pleasing anyone else. Most of us were raised in a culture that either pretended sexual energy didn't exist or sold it back to us as something we owe other people, so a lot of us arrive at midlife having never once been asked what we actually want or what actually feels good. That's what gets untangled in a room like this. And it's not all serious. There's dance, there's TWERK, there's a lot of laughing. Healing gets to be fun, and I wish more people knew that. None of it is new to me either. I've spent seven days in the jungle in Costa Rica with eighty naked women, dancing, crying, self-pleasuring, so I'm fairly unshockable at this point! This is the world I live in. The truth is, the reason I'm going is this.. At the start of this year I threw myself into a very stressful property project and something in me went offline. I dance, I pole, I know exactly where that aliveness lives in my body and how to reach it. And I haven't been able to find my way back FULLY since. Stress does that. I've got my daily practice, and Rob and I have just come back from a tantra retreat in Lithuania, so I'm constantly working on this stuff. But four days immersed in it with a room of women is another way to help it along. I go and do the work, and I always will.
