Be careful when following roadmaps...
A lot of people have asked me to create a roadmap on how to start/boost/improve your cybersecurity career. The problem is, there is no "one size fits all" roadmap... in fact, I'd argue that most roadmaps out there are made with ChatGPT in 10 minutes with prompts like "give me a step by step guide on how to go from zero-to-hero in cybersecurity". With that, you'll probably get some insights on what courses, certifications, degrees are available, and filter the most relevant for your own needs. But at the end of the day, a LOT of people end up in a situation where they follow exactly what they read from these roadmaps, and find themselves applying for hundreds of jobs, and getting zero feedback. This is a very interesting debate, and I have my own thoughts on this... But i would love to hear your opinion first! Jump in on the conversation and let me know what you think of this :)

ChatGPT can give you the path when you know that you are at A and want to go to B. The hardest part for me usually is to really understand what I want 😅 I know my skill set but there's a sea of possibilities that will make me wast a bunch time trying them all. Having someone with broader knowledge that can grab my skills set to walk me through some options and step by step uderstand together what's a better fit for me. I may be good at finding solutions to a presented problem, but my creativeness and probling solving mindset may be on a better use on exploiting weaknesses and find problems before they are presented.

@David Alves it was an example based on my experiences as it has been a continuous self discover regarding what I want based on what I've been experiencing: As an accountant, I realized I liked more the problem-solving work than dealing with the papers -> moved to financial audit. As an auditor, many processes were simply always the same, over and over again, which lead me to search and apply ways to automate them -> moved to Data Analytics/BI Developer. Now, through a Data Science course that I'm taking, I'm diving deeper in python and from a short experience coding in C# I'm starting to realize that I simply may like to code in general (not focusing only on Data field). From here, the possibilities are endless 😅 So, even with ChatGPT, without all the above, I could not reach where I'm now because I would not know what to ask, but with some mentoring (as you mentioned), this process would be shorter and arrowed into my current stage of development (or beyond).

Engage with other members and use this platform to ask anything you want! When I started, I wish I had direct access to people who work in the industry like you have here! Data Security Awareness
So I work with data and sometimes I get requests (reports or dashboards) regarding whatever. The problem is, most of the data is sensitive and each request should go through a process of evaluating if the requester as the permissions to ask and access the data being requested but most of the time, 'non-IT' people usually do not care about security processes, being only focused on their needs. I know there's no magical recipe to solve this lack of awareness but this is a problem you usually get? What have been your approach to raise awareness to those who are not from IT?

Learning VS Certification Exams
Learning happens when you actually learn, not when you pass an exam! Everyone loves to celebrate passing a certification, me included But what did you really learn? Seriously... Did you actually gain new knowledge? Or did you just memorize information to pass? Those two are completely different things, and I feel like many people tend to prioritize the second one! If you fail an exam but learned something new, that’s still a win 🙌🏻 If you pass AND actually learned, well that’s the ultimate goal! 🥇🏆 But try not to focus too much on the flashy badges, because those won't do the job for you 🫳🏻🎤

I got a master in Data Science and Business Analytics and before I finished it, I was able to, internally, land a job as Data Analyst at my previous company, being an example that the skills are the main goal. On the other hand, currently I'm at a new company and the degree was a huge part during all HR process. So you really need both: you need to be able to showcase your achievements and skills at 'first glance' while also be able to prove that knowledge when need (because it will be needed for sure!)

Building the best CV for Cybersecurity
Would it be relevant to showcase/discuss the CV that got me an interview at Microsoft and other Big Tech / Big 4 companies? I mean, everyone has his own style and all, but there's always something that you can either improve or optimize! With all the layoffs going on, working in IT has never been as unpredictable as it is now. So, having your CV ready to go is a must!

Currently with AI out there being used for everything, including recruiters using it to pin the best/worst CVs, this is definitely a huge topic
