Comparison
We often compare our progress with others. Some people are sprinting. Some are healing. Some are surviving. Some are building quietly behind the scenes. Some are still trying to work out what they even want. And honestly? Life isn’t a race round an arena where only one person gets a rosette. We’re all heading in different directions, carrying different stories, different griefs, different privileges, different fears, different dreams. Comparison steals so much joy. Especially now, when social media makes it look like everyone else has: ✨ the perfect horse ✨ the perfect life ✨ the perfect relationship ✨ the perfect business ✨ their shit together Meanwhile most of us are just trying to remember why we walked into the tack room and whether we paid the farrier 🤣 You do not need to rush, your path does not need to look like somebody else’s. There is room for all of us. Different lanes. Different timelines. Different versions of success. Remember comparison is the thief of dreams. Do you compare yourself to others? In what way?

I needed this post today. This week I am embarking on yet another very slow rehab programme with my 7 year old mare who has very mild hind suspensory and SI pain. I have only had her for a year and we have spent most of that rehabbing one thing or another. She is big and weak and we just have to take it slowly- when I see other out competing their 7 year olds at Medium and we can’t even do a 20m circle it makes me feel so sad for us both and yet …..she is my forever horse and the foundations are being built now for hopefully a long and injury free career. Thank you!
Day 3 - Controlling how you feel
Find out more and start this challenge here. Confidence is not just in your head, it lives in your body. A tense, stressed body blocks calm, control, and connection with your horse. Exercise: - Breathe in through your nose - Exhale slowly through your mouth, longer than the inhale (watch the video on controlling your breath) - Drop your shoulders and soften your jaw - Ground through your feet or seat in the saddle Action: Practise this reset before riding next or before moments of visibility. Reflection Prompts: - When did I notice tension or stress in my body? - How did I regulate my body? - How did this change my riding or mindset? Have you watched this months free addition - the Mindset video yet?

I have been doing this for a few weeks now before and when arriving at the yard, and in that time have built a lovely bond with my mare who really engages with me when I stand next to her very still and deep breathing.

Hi, I’m Jo. This year I bought my first horse as an adultI competed as a child, mainly showjumping and eventing, then had many years out of the saddle before returning to riding in my 50s 3 years ago. With a loan horse I discovered dressage and in May this year I bought Elena who is a 6 year old mare with a lot of talent but very green. I am looking forward to learning a lot and having the support of this community as I develop her. I would love her to become a horse I can take anywhere and do anything with and we are a long way from that point currently!

I am Jo, early 50s, just bought a beautiful and green 6 year old dressage horse. Am feeling a bit out of my depth as never had a young horse before!
