Rappers Delight
August 11 marks the anniversary of Hip Hop, tracing back to a legendary 1973 backyard party in the Bronx, where DJ Kool Herc debuted innovative turntable techniques that would become the foundation of the genre. Six years later, in 1979, The Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight” became the first commercially successful Hip Hop single, bringing the genre to fans everywhere with unforgettable lyrics that have become ingrained in Hip Hop culture.

Melodically and rhythmically, the seeds of “Rapper’s Delight” are sewn in Chic’s “Good Times.”
Benevolent Control: When Care, Help, or Protection Become Emotional Control
For the folks exploring the tenets of Paternalism and Saviorism, this article should help. Some of the most powerful forms of influence don’t look like control at all. They look like care. They look like protection. They look like help. Benevolence is one of the most socially protected forms of power because it is cloaked in virtue. When someone presents themselves as acting “for your good,” scrutiny softens. Questions feel ungrateful. Resistance feels unreasonable. The language of care creates moral insulation. Culturally, we are conditioned to assume that good intentions neutralize harm. If someone is helping, advising, guiding, or protecting, we are taught to interpret their behavior through generosity rather than control. “They’re just trying to help.” “They mean well.” “They’re looking out for you.” In this framing, care cancels harm. Motive outweighs impact. And power becomes difficult to identify because it is disguised as service. This is what makes benevolence such an effective vehicle for influence. It recruits social norms to reinforce itself. Gratitude is expected. Compliance is reframed as wisdom. Disagreement becomes evidence of immaturity, ingratitude, or poor judgment. The person offering care is positioned as morally elevated; the recipient is positioned as needing guidance. The hierarchy is subtle, but it is there. The core issue is not care itself. Care is necessary. Guidance can be appropriate. Protection can be ethical. The problem arises when goodness becomes leverage; when help is used to direct, contain, override, or decide for someone else under the cover of virtue. Benevolent control framing uses the appearance of goodness to stabilize power. Because it looks kind, it is harder to question. Because it sounds protective, it is harder to resist. Because it feels socially endorsed, it is harder to name. Continue reading https://www.authenticlivingtherapy.co/benevolent-control-when-care-help-or-protection-become-emotional-control
