My wife @Katie Manzanares and I launched a home cleaning business from scratch. Zero clients. Zero reputation. Zero certainty it would work. I want to tell you the story behind the story — because inside it is the exact thing most cleaning business owners never figure out. It started with a bad clean. One of our first jobs — a move-in clean I quoted at $200, expecting 4 hours. Katie was there for 8. The next morning, the client sent photo after photo. Final message: "Was she even here?" She refused to pay. And I had to tell Katie she was bad at cleaning. But Katie didn't get bitter. She went back into the next home. She got better. That moment taught me something I still believe today: A business will never outgrow the personal skills and leadership of its owner. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Then came Alliah. A cleaner on our team. After dinner with her one night, I wrote in my notebook: "Alliah is a superstar in the making." We offered her a role in the office. She hesitated — her clients loved her. Then Katie said something that changed everything: "Right now you impact 10 clients a week. In the office, you'd impact over 100." She was in. Within months she was doing the work of three people. Just paid another coach $10,000. In that time their revenue went from $20K/month… down to $13K/month. They came to me for help. I said no. They came back. I said yes. 114 weeks of weekly one-on-one coaching later… Their business hit nearly $1.1M in revenue in 2025. They made more in profit last year than they made in total revenue when we started.
