At 40+, "muscling through" executive dysfunction isn't a strategy—it’s a recipe for burnout. Support is great, but we need systems. I’m turning this space into a co-creation lab where we build a "Second Brain" framework specifically for neurodivergent minds. We’re going to use AI to break the "Wall of Awful" and build digital vaults so we never lose a brilliant idea again. 📂✨ This isn’t a finished product—we are building it together. @Christina Joy I'm with you on this! When I learned this has a lot to do with low dopamine production it helped me be able to find simple things I can do, like step outside, or get up and start stretching, or set a timer for 5 mins to wash a few dishes, something to jumpstart the system.

Hey everyone, ​I’m Jesse Niall, and I started this group because, like you, I’m navigating the "beautiful chaos" of life over 40 with an ADHD brain. ​For decades, many of us have white-knuckled our way through careers, kids, and big responsibilities. We’ve been told to "just use a planner," but our brains don’t work that way. ​The Reality of This Space ✨ I’m not here as a clinical counselor or a medical expert. @Elaine Rose ouch multiple steps 😔 I think part of the key to understanding is that we as ADHDers see every step as overwhelming because we have to intentionally focus on every little step within the step to complete the step and then there's all the other steps. Normal people don't have to intentionally focus on all the things, they just do the thing like they're on autopilot. Hopefully this helps in being able to understand why tasks with multiple steps feel so impossible to the point where we just get frozen. A quick solution is a brain dump, grab a pen and paper then write everything that comes to your mind one word at a time, I've actually got a brain dump web app that I made but paper is super effective! So once you've got all the gibberish on paper, all that crazy stuff that floats around in your brain, then stop and look at it, see if there's anything you can do right now. Usually there isn't much that can be done right away but if there is do it.

@Elaine Rose I completely understand having different colored pens and making things interesting and more exciting! Except for myself, when I do that I tend to put a lot of effort into the list and then I forget about it 😭 I'm always super grateful when my device remembers my password! 😂

@Christina Joy I'm not 100% sure that it's an ADHD thing, but I'm pretty sure. This is just one of those things that I feel is true because I always seem to see things differently, in much more detail and in a much more rich way, almost like the landscape is an oil painting. I grew up around people that never saw it, even when I mentioned it. Then I had children, and my children see it too. And yes, I too feel that my inner child was suppressed, and in some ways I still feel like that. Even after years of healing and doing inner child work, there's still some hurt in having to suppress. Even though I didn't know any better; I just tried to fit into the world, which is where masking started. Once you really start thinking about the masking, it's pretty mind-blowing. It requires a bit of a grieving process. While reading your comment, I had the idea. It would be pretty amazing to do a guided inner child meditation! I haven't tried over video before, but I have guided many people through in person 😊

@Christina Joy trauma could definitely have a huge impact towards ADHD symptoms, Dr Gabor Mate believes trauma is the root cause of ADHD. And essentially instead of being genetic he says that it's the intergenerational trauma passed on that causes ADHD from one generation to another... I also have trauma and so do people I work with with ADHD so it could 🤔 All I know is I have the symptoms and whether it was trauma or I was born with it, my brain is still ADHD.

I here you, the ADHD really caught up to me after 40. It seemed like a super power when I was younger, however the problem is that I didn't realize letting my ADHD run wild would hurt me in the long run. Know body tells you this stuff, even when you do get a diagnosis. So essentially I have put my body in debt and I spent years trying to figure out why the exhaustion, with no results from the medical system, the would say I am healthy. Long story short is that it is possible to heal from the nervous system burnout, and it starts with knowing what you're capable of, and learning about how manage sensory overload.
