Hi Jeremy, I noticed that when you do the linear 'derecho' basic, you don't send your hip to the right and send your chest to the left when you step on 1 like they do in Esencia which is what i was taught. Is it considered incorrect to do this basic, or is it better to learn the traditional Dominican basic instead?

I have been practicing my derecho hips for about a month now, but it still feels and looks very off. I attached two videos (normal speed and slow motion). Maybe someone can identify what I’m doing wrong and how I can improve it. I feel like I use my traveling leg a bit too much which creates kind of a derecho/majao hybrid hip movement if that makes sense.

I’m Isabella, joining from Bangui in the Central African Republic 🇨🇫 but home is Brazil 🇧🇷 and my parents are Polish-Ukrainian 🇵🇱🇺🇦 I dance bachata both as a follow and lead for about a year and a half now, alongside salsa (on2, mambo and on1), kizomba, semba, urbankiz, konpa, forró, and a little bit of other styles (including some zouk, samba, WCS...) — and I’m especially excited to finally dive deeper into BachaZouk!
