10 contributions to Book Marketing Bootcamp
How will you celebrate?
Tomorrow starts 10x-tober in the Bootcamp! We're doing a kickoff call to brainstorm strategies and tactics but also take a deep look at our limiting beliefs. First we set our goal of what business metric we want to increase. Some of you have said: - 10x word count - 10x (or 2x or 5x) page reads - 10x direct store sales - 10x subscribers on Substack - 10x newsletter subscribers! - I'm going for 10x preorders by Nov 1. Any goal you set is great! The next step isn't to jump to tactics. It's to calm any fears your nervous system might have about achieving the goal. Will your body feel SAFE arriving at the end destination? Because if not, you'll do a whole lotta hustle but sabotage your results. I've seen it in my business. Example: I was afraid of posting videos of myself because I didn't want to get r@pe threats. I avoided it for years. Then I started forcing myself to do it, but anytime I'd get more than 1000 views, I'd stop. Why? Because my brain thought that posting videos would literally kill me. Great news, I'm working through this. I just posted a video that got 30k views, and although recording the video was like slogging through mud, I did it and now it's a marketing asset I can use forever. Okay, your turn. Imagine you woke up and your goal is done. You did it. You hit it. What comes up for you? If there's any fear, doubt, hesitation, icky-gut-churning feeling, no amount of "work harder" will get you there. Because your mind doesn't think it's safe to be more visible and have more success. That's why you take all these courses and then nothing changes for you. You try an ad, it doesn't work, and then you quit. (You probably will have to test lots and lots and lots of ads to find the 20% that bring in 80% of the money). So what can you do? Here are some things I do: - Imagine and feel into the end result (I'm visual so I picture it as a movie and play music as a soundtrack) What does success look like, taste like, smell like? - decide how you will celebrate and imagine that - celebrate now - write out a list of things you're grateful for (evidence that good things can happen for you) - write out a list of hard things you've achieved (more evidence you can have success) - Tap on it - listen to a hypnotherapy meditation - Go for a walk on think on all this. Bilateral stimulation works wonders - Journal on it - Watch the kick off tomorrow and I'll walk you through some belief busting exercises!

SM for Dummies ;)
I am horrible at making graphics and posting on social media. Like I am so behind the times on what is even done. I only personally use BlueSky to chat. I spend no time on IG, TT, or FB (except to check out author grps). I don't like how it used to make me feel, so I stopped before TT began. But I created pages and want to try and utilize it for the upcoming challenge, and I don't know what to do. I know a Reel from a static graphic, and that's about all I know. LOL Is there a course, a workshop, a website where I can A. learn all of the different types of posts/formats with examples, and B. how to create them? Preferably something that won't cost me a grand. lol Thank you!

FB or Amazon Ads?
First, I want to thank y'all for being open to such newb questions. I've been published since 2011 (publisher) but indie since May, and there's so much to marketing I don't know. I'm embarrassed to post to the FB groups. lol My question today is FB ads or Amazon ads to start with? I have limited money. My indie novella series is 3 books published, one more to write and release this year and the series is complete, and they're in KU. I've never done ads & I don't know how. I am making low 3 figures on the indie series (this is a new sub-genre from my publisher books), and I assume (hope) it's due to discoverability. I only have 20ish ppl on my NL and 2 of them are new-to-me from my back matter. The rest are from my publisher books. (Does that make sense? lol) I did a Freebooksy back in July, on book 1, and had 4K downloads but sell through hasn't been a trickle. I may have screwed up. :) I took book 1 out of KU the beginning of August, but it's back in now. Long story. Don't ask. ;) The plan is to learn one of the systems to start, do some low cost ads for Oct to see if I can build some traction, and then go from there. Would you start with FB or Amz? And thank you! :)

What is your zone of genius?
I'm rereading the Big Leap by Gay Hendricks and here are the questions to figure out where to focus your time and energy: What do I love to do that I can do for long periods without getting bored? (You're passionate about it and love the challenge... you can also discover this by trying things you hate and figuring out what you'd want instead) What work do I do that doesn't feel like work? (you'd do it for free!) In my work, what produces the highest ratio of abundance and satisfaction amount of time spent? (this lens shows you the money) What is my unique ability? (often this is a combo of the above but with your own twist). My zone of genius is reading, networking with authors and entrepreneurs (I would do this for free), digital products (I figured this out by attempting to sell physical products and hating it), coaching and talking about self help strategies and mindset stuff (I do it for free), writing spicy scenes or group action scenes with wacky side characters (my word count per hour doubles or triples with these scenes).... and hypnotherapy . I also love dance, music, and creating playlists but more for fun. Same with gardening witchy, wild spaces. You?

Brainstorming and plotting, even outlining. But the first two, I'd do it all day, every day. I've no idea what produces the highest ratio, but I excel at empathy and emotions. I should lean into writing it more and stop wishing I wrote fast-paced, shocking twisty thrillers. I'm more of a suspenseful marshmallow. I need to embrace that. Not sure how to stand out in MST or horror as a marshmallow. lol Jennifer Fischetto - Spooky Marshmallow 😉
