Do any of these sound familiar? 🤦‍♀️Who am I to write a book? 😔I'm not qualified to do this 🌏There are already lots of books out there on the same topic! Or am I the only one? I think the "there are already books about this..." has been one of the biggest for me that I've had to dismantle once and for all. How about you? Which one resonates - or perhaps you have others to add! Let us know in the comments below!

Yes, I had to get over the "there are already books out there on this" obstacle. Surprisingly, what helped me was my jewelry-making hobby: I would sell at craft fairs and discover there were 10 other booths also selling jewelry. At first I had a spirit of competition: my pieces have to be better than theirs, my prices need to be lower than theirs, etc. But later I began to realize that 100 women could sit down with the same raw materials and make 100 different versions of a piece. We all have our own tastes and eyes for beauty. That lesson helped me so much that now I don't care how many jewelers are at a show; I know we are all unique. And this bleeds over to the writing obstacle: regardless of how many books are out there on my subject, my way of articulating it is guaranteed to be unique. And being unique means it needs to get out there too! (I'm giving myself a pep talk!)

Have you ever found yourself doing THIS? It could be a clue 🕵️‍♂️
Think about what your buying process looks like when it comes to choosing a book to buy. One thing I often do in addition to reading the book's description is to read the ratings section. Specifically, comments that readers have made, along with their rating. With an outline mapped out and a clear idea on what I think the structure of the book needs to look like, the idea came to me the other day to do some further research. What I've realised is that reading other people's COMMENTS on books that are on a similar topic to what you want to write about is a GOLD MINE for finding out what your ideal reader likes - and doesn't like. What do you want your readers to experience when they read your book? Clarity? Encouragement? Hope? Something else? Practical application? I'm certain that having a clear idea on what kind of experience I want my reader to have, will function like a compass to help keep me on track. So I couldn't wait to share this idea with you too!

Good reminder! Successful authors will tell you they have an avatar they are writing for, to help narrow down the focus. I really don't have a specific person in mind, other than myself. Probably one reason I've not found the motivation I need. I just want to share how relevant the WHOLE Bible is to our modern lives... not sure what I want readers to experience from that... maybe an aha moment? More interest in the Old Testament?
Is it a typing day or thinking day?
I think I'm learning to give myself permission that 'thinking' time on the book is just as effective as the actual writing! LOVE this quote that creates space for that acceptance. So with that - what are you "thinking" on when it comes to the book you want to write? I'll go first. I'm thinking about research. When I do some research for my book, what's the correct way to reference that. Which then goes down the trail of thinking about the type of research I'd like to do. Your turn 💞

I know there are two schools of thought about this. The hardcore writers like Jerry Jenkins say, "If you're not writing, you're not writing." LOL! But we are not all the same, so I am in the camp of the typing vs thinking days being equally productive. I guess the caveat is that at some point, we must write! I have so many irons in the fire that I have tended to prioritize the urgent over the important. Working on it. When are your starting the 10 day writing challenge again?
The Message Within You
A post came up in my Facebook feed that made me think of you so felt inspired to share this. Lana Vawser is an Australian who who hears God and as such, speaks out what she hears God saying. She shared a word God gave her earlier in the week. The below is an extract. I hope this blesses and encourages you as it did me: For there are many of you that I have placed My and My message within you but you have hidden it away because of comparison, because of fear and intimidation. And I am calling you to arise and release that which I have called you to speak. There are many that have felt like you have lost your vision. You have lost the direction of that which I have called you to and have found yourself caught in places of indecision. And I say unto you, that I am reminding you again of that which I have revealed to you. I am reawakening the vision. Where many have laid down the vision because of discouragement, warfare and weariness; I say unto you, receive My breath upon you that will release My hope, My strength and My vision again. ‘For there has been great battle over much of what you carry because the enemy seeks to cause you to remain in a place of hiding, but I am shining My light into the places where you have been hiding and I am calling you forth. You go not alone. I am covering you, surrounding you and I GO WITH YOU. I have gone before you and I have prepared the way. All you need to do is follow in obedience to what I have spoken, what I have placed in your hands and where I am leading you. It is not by your strength or your power, but it is by MY strength and MY power (Zech 4:6) that you shall see Me do through you that which I am asking you to step up, out and into.

We need so many reminders, all the time. God is so patient and gentle with us. A bruised reed he will not break. 💖
You never know when an inspired thought will strike!
Put me in a book shop (with a coffee area, of course), and it is humanly impossible for me to walk out without buying a new journal, or notebook of some kind. I'm tactile like that. There's just something yummy about the act of writing - pen to paper. However, as someone who works full-time and has a full plate more days than less, such a luxury as that is rare for me. So, I have taken like a duck to water using Notion for writing my book. It's digital. It's desktop-friendly It's also an App. It's BRILLIANT for keeping my many projects/interests moving ahead. It's free - and there is a paid version I LOVE IT (in the absence of pen-to-paper mode) What's your preferred 'tool' of choice?

I typically handwrite the gist of my idea and then flesh it out when I transcribe to Microsoft Word later. What is Notion? I'd love to see it in use!
