Friday Call
I think it's time to bring back the monthly call this Friday at 2pm EST. I'll put it on the calendar in the morning.

Was wondering if we would resume. Glad to hear it. I unfortunately also have a work conflict. I’ll start to protect that slot again.
Week of 9/28
“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakes.” — Carl Jung, letter to Fanny Bowditch, 1916 This came up in the daily reflections and it had me thinking about all the times I told myself I'd do [blank], but didn't. I'd listen to a podcast or see a short video and think that's what I'm going to do without first checking in with myself to see if I was ready to really commit to it. What I've noticed is that if it's not a YESS! ...it ends up being a no. Anyone else?

I’ve had this experience as well. It has helped me to try to align my vision/goal statement and then read that regularly to (1) make sure my direction is in alignment with the vision and (2) actually allow my self to acknowledge wins and be grateful for what’s been accomplished. There is intense power in deliberately stating what you are going to do and then doing it. I also first read that quote as seeking external validation before internal. That was also a problem for me for a long time.
Wins of the week
I know he won't say it, so I will. A couple of days ago @Joey Spadafore sent me a video of him repping out a ton of pull ups this week which is a huge win. He's been working so hard on keeping fitness a part of his life through all the setbacks and I just wanted to publicly say congrats and you've done a great job sticking to it.

Won a small local 5k yesterday. 20:16. Not a PR but very close to it and pushed myself hard at the end. 😊 Love to celebrate the wins.
How Do You Challenge Yourself?
Something @Boon Bowling and I have been discussing on the side is how we like to challenge ourselves with various athletic endeavors. I know this is something @Lance Rogerson and I have talked about too. So, this has made me curious. Who else likes to have a race or something on their calendar because it helps keep them focused and aligned? And what does it help you with? What do you see happening if you don't have that thing on your calendar?

Definitely a fan of this approach. My 2025 and 2026 vision statements included a goal to race a 5k once a quarter. I know, not much compared to Lance! Nonetheless, it definitely pushes me on my once a week runs to compete instead of just go out for a casual jog. I was very proud to break through the 20 minute mental barrier on my last 4th of July race with a 19:56 PR. Probably will mix in some 10k’s next year.
Intro - Jeff Murphy
Welcome everyone. My name is Jeff Murphy. I live in San Antonio, TX. I’m married to Jen with 3 kids ages 14, 12, and 8. I’m 41 years old. I work as an engineer in the oil and gas world. I enjoy lifting, running, soccer, snowboarding, golf, and spending time with the family. I woke up a few months after turning 40 and realized I wasn’t happy in my life and marriage. Set out in October 2024 on a journey of self reflection and self improvement. Primary goal was to improve my marriage but I quickly realized that involved fixing myself first. It’s been a great journey with many improvements in various aspects of my life. I’m now very committed to my health but looking for a continued community of like minded men looking for self improvement and to better themselves. I’m looking forward to this opportunity!
