The Five-Part Prompt Formula
A good prompt does not need to sound clever. It needs to remove guesswork. Use this five-part formula: 1. ROLE - Who should AI act as? 2. CONTEXT - What does it need to know about your business? 3. TASK - What exactly must it create or solve? 4. FORMAT - How should the answer be organised? 5. CONSTRAINTS - What should it avoid or keep in mind? Example: "Act as a social media strategist. I own a mobile beauty business serving busy professional women in Cape Town. Create five Facebook post ideas that build trust and generate enquiries. Present them in a table with a hook, key message and call to action. Use simple, friendly language and avoid hype." ACTION: Rewrite one prompt you used before using the five-part formula. Share the before and after versions below.

The 20-Minute AI Sprint
You do not need an entire free day to use AI. You need a focused 20 minutes. Try this sprint: MINUTES 1-5: Choose one task. Examples: write a post, reply to an enquiry, plan a promotion or create a checklist. MINUTES 6-12: Give AI the context and ask for a first draft. MINUTES 13-17: Improve it. Ask: "Make this clearer, more specific and more natural for South African business owners." MINUTES 18-20: Edit it in your own voice and use it. Today's prompt: "Help me complete this task in 20 minutes: [task]. First ask me the five most important questions you need answered. Then create a practical draft I can use today." ACTION: Complete one 20-minute sprint and report back: What did you create, and roughly how much time did it save?

Find Your Biggest AI Opportunity
Before adding more tools, find the bottleneck. A bottleneck is the task or problem slowing down your business. It could be inconsistent marketing, slow replies, poor follow-up, admin overload or not knowing what to post. Use this quick audit: - What task repeats every week? - What task gets delayed when you are busy? - Where do potential customers lose interest? - What do customers ask you repeatedly? - What work requires your judgement, and what work mainly follows a pattern? Then use this prompt: "Act as an AI implementation consultant. I run a [business]. My recurring tasks are [list]. My main business bottleneck is [problem]. Identify the three best opportunities to use AI, rank them by ease and impact, and give me the first step for each." ACTION: Post your number-one bottleneck below. We will turn member bottlenecks into practical future lessons.

Three Jobs AI Can Do This Week
AI becomes valuable when you attach it to a job, not when you admire it as a shiny new toy. Here are three beginner-friendly jobs you can give it this week: 1. CONTENT ASSISTANT Ask it to create post ideas, hooks, captions and repurpose existing content. 2. CUSTOMER MESSAGE ASSISTANT Ask it to draft replies to enquiries, FAQs and friendly follow-ups. 3. PLANNING ASSISTANT Ask it to organise your priorities, create checklists and turn messy notes into an action plan. Try this prompt: "Act as my practical business assistant. I run a [business]. Here are the tasks I need to complete this week: [list tasks]. Sort them by impact and urgency, tell me what AI can help me complete, and create a simple five-day action plan." ACTION: Choose one of the three roles above and tell us which task you are giving your AI assistant first.

Stop Treating AI Like Google
Most weak AI results start with weak instructions. If you type, "Give me marketing ideas," AI has to guess who you are, who you serve and what you are trying to achieve. Instead, speak to AI like you would brief a new employee. Try this prompt: "I own a [type of business] in South Africa. My ideal customer is [describe them]. My main offer is [offer]. I want to generate more enquiries through [Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn/WhatsApp]. Give me 10 practical marketing ideas that are realistic for a small business with limited time and budget." Notice what changed: you gave context, a customer, an offer, a channel and a constraint. ACTION: Run the prompt and share the best idea below. Also tell us what extra information you added to make the answer more relevant. Better context creates better output. AI is not a mind reader - sadly, neither are customers.
