So I was chatting to Jonny earlier and he told me about a lumpy mail cock up a few years back. He was doing a bunch of work in the car auction niche and wanted to get more clients. Researched one of the owners of a major UK classic car biz. Big dog. Like £150M net worth big. Pulled his registered office address off Companies House… sent it out… and then nothing. Crickets. Had his number, so he gave the guy a ring - and he picked up! The problem was… He had NO idea Jonny had sent a bottle. The address on Companies House was a registered address but not a real office. In fact the bottle never turned up. If Jonny was a bit smoother, he coulda turned that cold call into a coffee date but he was already on a bad footing. Here's the lesson… Companies House gives you AN address. It won't tell you if anyone actually SITS there. Loads of businesses use a registered office that's just a legal formality. Usually an accountant's office or a virtual mailbox. Nobody's opening packages there. So you gotta gotta gotta verify it's a real, staffed workplace before you send. Don't just blindly copy-paste the public record. This is exactly why the Dream 100 Scorecard has a "right address" check — and why Topa flags registered-office-only addresses as a red flag. A bottle on the right desk = a coffee date. A bottle at a ghost address = an expensive donation to nobody. Verify the address FIRST. Dan P.S Jonny’s working on a live direct mail tracker that will auto flag all of this for you. So as you input the data and the system finds the lead… It will work in the background, cross-selling multiple sources to make sure that you’re sending them to the RIGHT office… where that lead is highly likely to work there. That’ll cut down any mistakes by FAR. (OR you could just get us to send bottles for you - peeps our DFY programme will get this benefit)
