Hey everyone! I appreciate everyone who has commented and participated in this group to date. However, for this group to be a valuable resource, it will need to be an organic, growing group of individuals encouraging each other in our marathoning goals. And at this juncture, it may not be the right time for this group - or possibly not the right format. If you all find this group valuable or want it to continue, please let me know and/or share with your friends, and we can try to keep it going. But if it's just one more thing for people to keep up with, we may just take a break and reconvene in another way in the future. Either way - appreciate you all and keep up the great work! Thanks, Jason

Intro
Hi all, I wanted to go ahead and introduce myself! I’m a relatively new runner (since January 2024) but come from a soccer and powerlifting background. Prior to last year, I’d only run 5 miles once in high school while training for soccer, otherwise I capped it at 2-3 miles per run. I’m currently training for the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon in November. This will be my second road marathon and 3rd marathon overall (I ran a trail marathon in March). I’ve experimented with a lot of different supplements (gels/electrolytes/carb powders, etc.) over the past year so if anyone has any questions about what’s worked for me, let me know!

New Year, new goals?
Hey everyone! It's 2026! What are some of the new running goals for the year? Signing up for any marathon, half-marathon or other races? Let's encourage each other as we start the year!

@Ana Žebovec that's great - thanks for sharing! I am working on cross-training goals this month with burpees and planks. Usually later in January I will do a 20+ mile long run - I haven't set the goal yet...but I need to! Others?
Looking into starting to run
Hey there, I'd like to introduce myself and share my goals. I am new to running and have signed up to a Half Marathon in April next year. I have no prior experience in running and had my first few runs in the past two weeks. I ran between 2 - 5 km each time and I wonder how I can propperly set goals and design my training. Any help is appreciated!

Chris! Welcome and congratulations! Signing up for a race is a great idea to set that goal out there! You are off to a great start. Keep your distance increasing slowly and gradually. Once your runs are 5 - 7 km, you should start to notice your body finding a rhythm and while running won't be magically easy, you body should begin to say "Hey, this is normal!" Anyone else want to share some thoughts? Again, a warm welcome!
Still running in the cold?
I know it's getting cold around our region now that it's December...are you all still running through the winter in the cold? Or do you enjoy mild temperatures year round where you are?

@Ana Žebovec I can't run on a treadmill - I get burnt out. I have a running group that I'll run with 2 days a week even when it's cold - I'll just layer up and wear a hat!

@Ana Žebovec that makes tons of sense. Whatever it takes to keep on running!
