Every step was a battle, both physically and emotionally. Halfway up the trail, I broke down on a rock, overwhelmed by memories. Twenty years earlier on this exact same day, I had hiked this exact path with my first wife, who has since passed away. We carried a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
