What are you reading this weekend?
Of course, it doesn't have to be historical fiction, although mine happens to be HF: The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn. I'm loving it so far (about halfway through).

I just read a fascinating new book titled December Silence: the Speech that was Never Given by Joseph Wadas. It's fictionalized history about John F Kennedy's murder and the probably backstory behind it, and so realistic for anyone interested in the Vietnam War era!
A Promise Kept
πŸ™‚ My favourite historical book in March is a new release by a local author: Marianna Ida. A PROMISE KEPT - https://a.co/d/0449GS7I. This woman describes what it was like for her during the Hungarian Revolution as a teenager, amidst tanks in the street gunning people down, and in her home where she was an afterthought and an inconvenience. Vivid, poignanat and the ending is awesome!
This might be controversial....
But how do you guys feel about Kristin Hannah and her historical fiction-type books? Or are they more 'historical period' books? πŸ“š I have only recently started reading some of her books, and they are always well-researched and detailed in their coverage of the topics she writes about. Thoughts? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Character driven HF reads more like a gripping novel! Not so many dates. πŸ™‚

I like this categorization. LowHF authors always get me emotionally wrapped up in the story! More like time travel. LOL

For me, the whole point of community is for us to connect with each other, as human beings. And online, unless we're posting video/audio of ourselves, all we've got to go on are our typed words. If those words are from ChatGPT or whatever, then we're not *really* getting to know one another. This isn't a general anti-AI post. I use both ChatGPT and Claude for various things. I just don't want AI used for posts/comments in this community. I'm sorry if this is disappointing to any members. I understand if this means this community isn't the right place for you. I'm sure there are plenty of other communities that are ok with AI posts. No hard feelings. It's important to me to protect the human-to-human vibe of the Historical Fiction Club 🧑 Here's a link to the rules.

To be real...is divine!
Raw and Real!
I read and write historical fiction because of the authenticity in the story. Rare these days! BC's history is fascinating to uncover and share.

My favourite historical reads? I've just read two historical novels by Heidi Ennis who writes about the Natives living along the Columbia Gorge in Oregon (near my home town) in such vivid details, it's like you're wearing moccasins on a forest trail. A FATHER'S DREAM and AN ECHO OF COURAGE carries that history from further back in time and into the white settlers arriving. Deep mystical. Of course there is always my series! Homesteading in the wild backcountry of BC!
