🌿 New Plant Video: Self-Heal (Prunella vulgaris) 🌿
I've been spending time with one of my favourite little plants: Self-Heal. You may have walked past it countless times without noticing it. Growing quietly amongst grasslands, meadows, lawns and hedgerows, it hugs the earth and asks us to slow down enough to see it. In the video, I explore some of the traditional medicinal uses of Self-Heal, including its use for wounds, sore throats, viral infections, liver support and thyroid health. But what fascinates me most about this humble plant is its deeper symbolism. As a flower essence, Self-Heal is associated with transformation, self-trust and becoming who we truly are. Not fixing. Not striving. Not becoming someone else. But gently shedding what no longer serves us and growing into who we were always meant to be. That feels beautifully aligned with what we're creating here in Rooted in Nature. A journey back to ourselves. A remembering. A becoming. 🌿✨ One of the things I love about Self-Heal is that many of us can find it growing nearby, wherever we are in the world. It grows throughout Britain and Ireland, across much of Europe, North America, Asia and parts of Australia and New Zealand, quietly supporting people through the centuries. It's not rare. It's not flashy. It's simply there, growing beneath our feet, offering its gifts to those who take the time to notice. And perhaps there is wisdom in that too. This video is also the beginning of something new. Over the coming weeks I'll be creating a Self-Heal Mini-Course for our community, where we'll explore its herbal uses, folklore, flower essence qualities, practical remedies and ways to work with this beautiful plant ally. I'd love to know: 🌍 Where in the world are you joining us from? 🌿 Does Self-Heal grow where you live? ✨ And what does the word becoming mean to you at this stage of your life? I'd love to hear your thoughts below. 💜

Hi I really enjoyed looking at this course. I remember making rose petal perfume as a child but I’m sure following your instructions will produce a better product than I used to create! Thank you 🌹
The Spiral Path
Symbols have always fascinated me — from the sun and moon symbols all over my bedroom walls as a teenager, to visiting the ancient burial site of Newgrange in Ireland years ago. Seeing those ancient spirals carved into the stone — symbols that have survived for thousands of years — stirred something in me that I’ve never quite forgotten. There’s something deeply human about our desire to weave meaning, mystery and connection into symbols. They can feel a little bit magical ✨ Even today, when I see someone adorned with tattoos, it often tells a story about who they are, where they’ve been, or what matters to them. Humans have marked themselves with symbols since ancient times — to tell stories, show status, offer protection or express belonging. Across pagan and Celtic traditions, sacred symbols were used to represent the cycles of nature, transformation, protection, wisdom and our connection to the earth. Many of them still speak to us deeply today, even if we can’t always explain why. When we last visited Glastonbury, my boy Beren traced his finger along the grooves of a wooden labyrinth in a temple dedicated to Mary Magdalene. He made a wish as he followed the path, and it struck me how simply connecting with a symbol can focus our attention, deepen intention and give our thoughts a little more power. I’ve created this sacred symbols worksheet as a gentle resource to help you explore some of their meanings and reflect on how they might connect to your own journey 🌿 This is also just one of the gifts being created for the Earth Magic course inside the premium tier of Rooted in Nature, which will also include a companion guide exploring Buddhist and Eastern spiritual symbols too. Which symbol do you feel most drawn to right now?

Definitely the tree of life for me! I love looking at the trees in my local area and noticing how they change throughout the seasons and I’m fascinated by tree folklore and the thought that some trees have been around for hundreds of years and that they can connect and communicate with one another. 🌳
Life in the Slow Lane 🐌
We are on the Norfolk Broads 🚤 This is a part of the country I've never explored before, a different landscape, very flat, lots of open blue sky. New environment, yes, boat life? no, I've experienced many a holiday since early childhood on my Aunts narrow boats navigating canals and locks around the UK. This time we are on a 45ft cruiser, 12ft wide. I'm with James, kids, Aunt & partner and my brother. Today is James' birthday, not a bad way to spend the day. Boat life is a relaxing activity indeed, you need a steady yet relaxed focus while driving, you can't completely let your mind wander but it's far from hard work. It kind of hits a sweet spot of mindfulness or meditation. You are very immersed with nature on the rivers. We watched a Marsh Harrier on the hunt while listening to the sound of the Sky Lark busy singing, detracting the Harrier from her precious nest. This morning I felt inspired to make a quick video as James and I explored an old walkway leading to the village church, allowed to go wild and so rich in wild food and flowers. We found Hops, not something we see often, and all the usual favourites like nettle, Jack by the Hedge, May flowers. There was loads of chickweed, flowering, so not quite at its best to eat, but I still would have picked some had it not been for its position 🦮 It always gives you food for thought, travelling so much more slowly and taking your time getting anywhere, its a rest for the soul, its a break from the fast paced life we cannot help but get caught up in at times. Tonight we are booked in for a carvery, right by the mooring. Thats boat life for you! :-)

Enjoy yourselves! Norfolk is a beautiful part of the country 😊
David Attenborough 100th Birthday
Did anyone see the celebration on BBC? It reminded me how I have grown up with this man, leading the way in my understanding of the animal kingdom, and how much his presence on TV has probably shaped my own love of the natural world. What was your favourite David moment? Mine has to be the gorillas 🤎

@Rachel Sartain I started with a short science course called ‘Life in the oceans - our blue planet’, based on the Blue Planet series as I wasn’t sure how I would get on, then I went on to choose a range of other natural world and environmental based courses- but it all started with the Blue Planet! 😊💙

@Lea Kendall I had just started working casually in environmental education before I started the course (my colleagues at the time were very supportive that I should study) and I did move on to work full time in the field, going back to a casual role as I have semi-retired (but not ready to give up altogether as it had been such a big part of my life 😊)
