help for toddler and combining words
Hi! I have a 20 month old daughter (almost 21). Her first words came a touch on the later side, but since 18 months she’s had a large explosion and has likely over 100 now (need to formally count). In the last few weeks she’s started to repeat almost all words we say. She’s still not combining spontaneously despite having over 50 words including nouns, pronouns, adjectives and prepositions. Over the last week she repeated a few things like “more nana” and “open please” (she says more like ‘mo’ and open like ‘opie"). Usually she can say please like “peees” but when combining it with open it becomes more like “opie + ee” and she drops the initial consonant in please which she does have in isolation. Wondering if it’s normal for toddlers to start with repeating the phrases rather than using them on their own, even if they do have a large single word vocabulary, and wondering about a motor speech difficulty when expanding into phrases and maybe that’s why she’s not combining words. or am i reading too much into this and she’s getting there?
