Hi everyone! If you haven't heard, Jim Gregory is now serving as the Sport Manager for Modern Pentathlon with LA28, the Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. As preparations for the Games begin, we’re working to identify members of the modern pentathlon community who may be interested in helping deliver the competition as judges and discipline directors. To make the event successful, we’ll need strong support from across our community – especially from retired athletes who truly understand the sport. Across all four disciplines, we expect to need more than 100 judges: - Fencing - Obstacle - Swimming - Laser Run Our immediate priority is identifying potential Discipline Directors, which require Level 3 judge certification, though we will also need Level 2 and Level 1 judges as we build out the full team. LA28 will cover travel and lodging for all judges during the Games. For those interested in pursuing Discipline Director roles, the general pathway will include: - Completing an online judge certification course - Serving at the U.S. National Championships in Charlotte (June 26–27, 2026) - Serving at a World Cup event in the Los Angeles area in 2027 - Potential selection to serve at the LA28 Olympic Games If this is something you’d like to learn more about, please send me a direct message rather than replying in the thread – just to avoid pinging everyone.
