4 contributions to Black Women Rising
Welcome to the Community
If you’re here, chances are you’ve felt the shock, frustration, grief, or uncertainty that came with the wave of job losses affecting hundreds of thousands of Black women in 2025. First, take a breath. You are not alone here. This community was created as a space for Black women navigating career disruption, layoffs, forced pivots, or the deep question of “what now?” Whether you’re rebuilding, resting, reinventing, or exploring something entirely new, you are in the right place. This is not just a networking group. This is a rebuilding space. Here I'm hoping we focus on: • Career Reinvention - exploring new paths, industries, and opportunities • Entrepreneurship & Income Streams - building something of your own • Financial Recovery & Strategy - stabilizing and planning your next move • Leadership & Confidence - remembering your value and power • Collective Wisdom - sharing resources, opportunities, and knowledge Many of us were taught to survive systems that were never designed for us to thrive. Here, we’re doing something different. We’re telling the truth about work. We’re sharing what we know. We’re helping each other rise. Start here: 1️⃣ Introduce yourself in the Introductions thread! Tell us: - Where you're joining from - Your former industry or role - What you’re hoping to build or explore next 2️⃣ Check the Resources section for job leads, tools, and training. 3️⃣ Ask questions. Share opportunities. Support another sister when you can. Your job may have ended. But your story, your brilliance, and your possibilities did not. Welcome. We're building what comes next - together. - Dr. Jam

I see there's a class action lawsuit happening!
Your Story Matters!
Many of us were impacted by layoffs in different ways. If you’re comfortable sharing, what industry or role were you in before 2025, and what surprised you most about losing that job?

I was the Director of African American Student Affairs at a Research 1 university. I had been in the role only two years, yet accomplished a lot! Grants to allow Black students to travel, remodel student spaces... I put a mural on the building that reflected the Black joy inside... I upped engagement, etc. It was my dream job; I thought I'd be there for at least another few years. The fact that I was so effective is what surprised me the most... no kudos, no severance, just a 30 day notice (we fought for 60 days and got it).
Please introduce yourself here!
What's your name? Where in the world are you joining from? What was your former industry or role? What are you hoping to build or explore next?
Please introduce yourself here!

I'm joining from Tucson, AZ. I was the Director of African American Student Affairs at the University of Arizona when they decided to pre-comply with the Anti-DEI directive from the federal govt (COE). I had been in Higher Ed about 15 years. I'm working on my own business - Black Star Wisdom! Something Good: The sun is shining and flowers are blooming - spring has arrived!
