What did you get for Christmas? (Show & Tell) 🎁
I'm a big fan of reading. I literally can't fall asleep unless i pick up a book right before bed time. So i was super happy and grateful when i got these books from my parents. I've always wanted to read more stories from the LOTR universe. So here we go! βš”οΈ How about you? Did Santa bring something nice this year? πŸŽ…

My wife got me a refillable notebook holder! I take notes all the time and love to cary it around - and this one is small enough to bing with me most places.

@Andy Quan thanks! It’s pretty great because it holds you pen and flags and stuff and you can refill it as needed 😊
My First Thumb Pick (After 15 Years of Playing) πŸ‘
I’ve been learning The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel recently. I always assumed it was played fingerstyle. I was right and wrong... He does play fingerstyle, but with a thumb pick. So, to stay closer to the original sound, I decided to buy my first one πŸ™Œ Much of the dexterity I’ve built from other fingerstyle songs still carries over. Using a thumb pick isn’t a huge departure from using the thumb itself, but it does change the tone 🎢 Have you ever used thumb picks before?

When I was in college I was doing a ton of finger style. I used a thumb pick AND would get acrylic nails in my index middle and ring fingers - because my nails are way too brittle to play a steel string. Trying to get 3 acrylic nails at a nail Solon in south central LA was always an adventure πŸ™ƒ

@Christian Lie it was a lot of Blues roots American stuff. I probably would’t do it again - but it’s a fun story now.
It's her 90th birthday party, but all her friends died πŸŽ„
On the 23rd of December every year, most Norwegians watch a black-and-white short film called Dinner for One πŸ₯˜ It’s a comedy sketch from 1963 in which Miss Sophie, the woman in the photo below, celebrates her 90th birthday. She has outlived all of her friends, so the butler, James, pretends to be each of them. It sounds very dark (and in some ways it is), but it’s also a lot of fun πŸ˜… Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nysm_ErwdFE What Christmas traditions do you look forward to? πŸŽ… Christmas greetings from me and my family! πŸŽ„

That’s awesome!! Is it a family tradition or something you do with your friends??
Burnout, Books, and Breaks πŸ”₯πŸ“—πŸ₯±
Do you have something you do to relax, like reading, writing, or walking? As you may know, I put a lot of energy into my 1-on-1 lessons and this community. I want to help people feel confident and creatively free when picking up the guitar. But it’s not always easy. This month I almost worked a bit too much. Luckily, I saw it coming and took some time off to read and rest. What's your favourite down-time activity?

I haven't read any Terry Pratchett yet, but I really want to read Good Omens, which I think him and Neil Gaiman wrote together. That's supposed to be really good. I've heard Mort is the best, and I think I picked up a copy of that at one of my used bookstore experiences a couple months ago. I just haven't had a chance to pick it up yet.
New Student: "The Fretboard Just Clicked!"
Here's a little snippet from a lesson i had with @Jaime Ayala earlier today. He had a breakthrough moment when he was able to see the fretboard more clearly. Big win! 🀩 What's your biggest breakthrough moment on the guitar so far? 🎸

Welcome @Jaime Ayala !! Those first breakthrough moments are a huge exclamation point, but buckle your seatbelt. You're going to have a handful more over the next few weeks. As crazy as it is to see this for the first time, when you're starting to apply it to the neck and actually playing with it, it's even more exciting! I can't wait to see your progress!
