Drawing Exercise #8
This week, you have freedom in what you draw as long as it’s Japanese themed. Think lotus or cherry blossom flowers, koi fish, dragons, geishas. I’ve added a hannya mask and some foo dogs into my drawings below. This is a good opportunity to google search Japanese creatures and mythology. Japanese designs have cool stories attached them which is partially why I love the style. I’m going to make a video on how I draw designs like this, using shapes and shadows like we’ve covered in previous exercises. Start simple if some of these designs look overwhelming. Flowers and snakes are always a nice place to start. Post your work for feedback

@Che Crook Thanks man. I’m thinking of using the Ohuhu Honolulu Dual Tips Alcohol Art Markers. Would watercolour paper work with them? They’re quite similar to Copics.

@Che Crook Perfect and yep definitely almost impossible to blend on regular paper! I wondered if it was the paper or me at first when I used Copics a couple years ago.

Hey everyone, I’m Jai. I’m 28 and working towards a tattoo apprenticeship and building up my portfolio. These are some of my recent pieces. Drew the roses with Prismacolour pencils and Copic markers for the outline. Ghost Face I used graphite. Was my first time using graphite only too. I’d love to hear any feedback, and I’m keen to learn and improve alongside you all.

Drawing Exercise #2
This week, I’d like you guys to draw a rose. Copy my rose or draw your own. Last week we did basic shadows and shapes to understand shading and contrast better. Now let’s apply it to a rose to take things to the next step. If you havnt done last week’s exercise, take part and post your drawings for feedback. If you’re cutting out steps, I can’t be sure of your progress. No change in your routine means you make no change in results! Let’s go!!! 🚀📈

Drew another rose similar to my first post here. Coloured this one with Prismacolor pencils as well.

@Che Crook Thank you. Definitely plan to make a flash of these. Dagger, spider, etc is a good idea!

Check my last post. Base tones, high lights and shadows give us a formula to draw with instead of guessing and hoping. Study why shadows and highlights fall the way the do. Understanding patterns helps us recreate them. Post your completed templates for feedback. Download the stencil here or find them & more on my website TheBuzzAcademy.com

Just finished mine. Used Copic multi liner for the lines. The rest I used graphite pencils, and a black pencil.

@Che Crook Thank you and not yet. I only have HB, 2B, and 3B in graphite pencils. Planning to get a complete set soon though! ✏️
