Community Question:
What are your current favorite types of cards to collect? Do those types translate to a decent ROI or are they merely a collectible interest?

@Zack Fair oh absolutely lol
Hey!
How are you all? my name is Ray. Collector and recently decided to start selling. I've been blessed to be successful in my business so I am taking 1k a month to start to invest into buying and reselling and will see how I grow from there. I took 1 dryer and turned it into 30 and then sold to accumulate my first 1k to Invest. Since then ive gotten my collection to about 3k and have around $1800 cash from the original 1k! Loce strategy and flipping. My goal for my businesses is 1. Have fun 2. Build a legacy collection 3. Enjoy the profits Looking to build relationship with other collectors and buyers so we have a good eco system. Collecting base set Even and all evolutions And anything really

@Ray Hagler so PSA isn’t “shut down” per se. Just their value tiers are on hold. If you have cards that you’re very confident will 10 and they have the ability to 3-4X your initial investment, it’s still a viable option. But yes your main subs are CGC and BGS (which is better in my opinion). Pre grading is a good option for sure. Can definitely save a good amount of money since 9s generally don’t fetch any premium over raw values.

@Tanjiro Kamado yeah never purchase cards from Amazon. They are never from a distributor and are almost always loose packs which have a higher chance of being duds.
How to sell
Don’t sell. The longer they listen, the sweeter the pitch. I do contracts with clients for construction. They have already bought me before I come and look at the job. I don’t have to sell, but those are warm leads and when there are 5 and 6 figures on the line people buy with emotion. It’s highly emotional for someone to give you their life savings and ask you to turn it Into a house. And when you start getting into 7 figure conversations it’s only emotion. I’ve been offered million dollar contracts and turned them down because of a gut feeling about the person offering it. If my gut feeling says no to the person, I’m going to say no. Million dollar contracts usually put you next to those people for a year or two in construction. Or I charge triple the price and hope they say no. Some have said yes, which sucks lol but hey, the money is good. When it comes to cards and selling to cold-ish leads it’s still all emotion. The guys that I do shows with will tell you, I’m the loudest person there with the most energy. I’ll yell at people from across the room and get them over to our table. Found out a few years ago I have free will and I just do what I want now! 😂 Once you get them to the table you have to build immediate trust. How do you do that? Ask them what they are interested in. Ask them questions about them because the one thing people love to talk about is themselves and have a reflection of their personality reflected back to them by another person. We are hilariously self obsessed creatures! Use it to your advantage. Typically at these shows they will be wearing shirts with art for anime, or bracelets, watches, some will have binders or graded card boxes. I always ask what’s inside and can I look at it. No matter what it is I always find a way to connect to people based on what they collect. This is where watching anime makes me money. You must have that knowledge to really connect with people and get them to trust that you know what you are talking about. It’s that easy to build trust. I’m not saying they need to trust you like they trust their partner in life, but for that moment you can’t lie and hope to close a sale. As soon as they get a bad feeling which their gut will say, it’s over. I’ve seen it and I’ve done it because my gut, heart, and head run my businesses.

Intentionality becomes the rock solid foundation that sets you apart from the person next to you.
Credit cards and TCG
Rules of having a credit card: 1. Spend only what you have. 2. SPEND ONLY WHAT YOU HAVE!!! 3. Keep utilization under 7% 4. Pay it off every day 5. Don’t become the product Spending what you have is how you don’t become the product of a credit card company. Understanding credit cards is no different than the psychology of understanding TCG. You have to know when to get out from underneath debt. You have to pay it off everyday no exceptions. I recently sat down with the CFO of Cracker Barrel and all of this was his advice to me. I’m not great with keeping up with financials in my construction business so I reached out to him and we sat down for 2 hours on how to better deal with the financial side of my business. But that’s beside the point. Be responsible with your credit and make sure that you have a system in place with rules for using it and know how much money you have. Keeping utilization low or even 0 every month is a non negotiable. If you have $10,000 in credit, don’t spend $9,000 every month and let the payment day get you. It’ll destroy your credit that month. Get another credit card every six months if you need to spend more. Rotating 3-6 credit cards can get complicated and I know people with even more. Learn how to deal with just one credit card then you can add more as long as your credit is strong. Zack… this is about flipping cards, how does that pertain to TCG cards? Because you can’t get money out of credit cards. You can pay for things but you can’t treat it like a bank. However, if you buy TCG cards and flip them using credit cards you can 4x your results. I have a points card from capital one as shown below. I can use those points for hotels and plane rides. My wife has one as well and we will use these points to go to Japan next year. And the credit card company is going to pay for our entire trip. You can also get money cards with 2%-3% money back. Robinhood recently produced a 3% credit card which is amazing but I don’t know how long it will last. (I’m watching that credit card). Next, It builds your credit which makes everything in your life cheaper. Your bills suddenly become lower because those companies checked your FICO and decided we are going to reward you because it rewards us. After that if you buy and flip TCG cards you are basically buying money using credit. By using the system that I use in here you can create cash flow and compound your money.

Another excellent use of a credit card, especially if you struggle with the “buy with one click” button, is to exclusively utilize the card for purchases like gas and groceries. Stuff that you normally have already budgeted for anyways. Paying that off within a week of you spending the money will prevent interest build up and slowly build your credit as well. Good tips!
