Greetings of Morocco
Salam everyone 👋 Let’s start with something you can say right away. No difficult sounds or tongue gymnastics. Your first Darija greeting 😄 🇲🇦 Salam (sa-LAAM)👉 Hello / Peace This is the most natural and universal greeting in Morocco. You can use it: When entering a shop, when meeting friends, when greeting neighbors, and basically anywhere! If someone greets you with Salam, you can simply reply: Salam 🙂 Yes, that easy. Want to sound extra natural? You might also hear: Salam 3likom (sa-LAAM ʿLEE-kum) 👉 Peace be upon you. Reply with: Wa 3likom salam 👉 Peace be upon you Don’t worry about the "3" sound yet — saying Salam is already perfect. 🇲🇦 Cultural tip: In Morocco, greeting people is important. Walking into a place without saying Salam can feel… unmoroccan 😅 A simple greeting shows respect and warmth. And when leaving… You might hear: Bslama (b-sla-ma) 👉 Goodbye / go in peace. It’s warm, friendly, and very Moroccan. Try it in the comments! 👇 Write Salam and I’ll reply as a Moroccan! When end a post… you can say Bslama 😄 Bslama 🙌

Merhba! Welcome to Learn Darija with Issam 🇲🇦
Salam 👋 and welcome! I’m Issam. I created this community to help you learn Moroccan Arabic (Darija) the way it’s actually spoken in real life, not textbook Arabic and not robotic phrases no one uses. I’m also qualified to teach this. I hold a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies and Linguistics, which means you won’t just learn what to say, but also why people say it that way. 👉 All teaching and explanations here are in English, so everything stays clear while you learn to speak Darija naturally. What you’ll get here: - 🗣️ Real, everyday Darija - 🧠 Clear explanations that make things click - 🇲🇦 Moroccan culture, expressions, and context - 💬 A relaxed space to practice and ask questions (mistakes welcome) You don’t need any prior experience. Beginners are welcome, and if you already know some Darija, we’ll help you make it sound more natural. How to get the most out of this community: - Start with the Classroom for lessons - Use the Community to ask questions anytime - Focus on progress, not perfection Let’s start 👇Comment below and tell us where you’re from and why you want to learn Darija. I’ll say hi. Bslama 🙌 Issam
