Have You Ever Wanted to Shave It All Off?
Sometimes a client sits in your chair and says: “I want it all off.” Sometimes it’s because the hair is damaged and starting again is the healthiest option. Sometimes they simply want a completely new look. And sometimes… they’re going through something in life and cutting their hair feels like letting go of some of that energy. I genuinely believe there can be something very emotional about hair. 💜 As hairstylists, we’re not just thinking about the haircut. We’re listening to why the client wants the change and making sure they feel confident about their decision. And when they’re ready? We cut it. ✂️ A shaved head can still be beautiful, feminine and sexy! — Just look at this transformation!☺️ Sometimes what looks like “just a haircut” from the outside can mean something completely different to the person sitting in the chair. Have you ever had a client ask you to shave it all off? Or have you ever felt like doing it yourself? 💜

Have You Ever Wanted to Shave It All Off?
💜 Building trust
The story behind this before and after is very special. I have been doing her mother's and sister's hair for some time, but this young girl did not feel it was the right moment to transform her own hair yet. Forcing a change or trying to convince a client to do something they are not ready for completely breaks the connection. The right moment arrived naturally. She sat in my chair of her own free will, ready for the transformation, and the final result was pure joy. I feel very honoured to have earned this trust. Our work starts long before the scissors. It starts with absolute respect for the wishes of those who come to us. As professional, do you respect your client timing? 💜What are your thoughts on this?

💜 Finding Your Own Signature
These days we have access to so much information. Videos, courses, new techniques, new tools… and sometimes so much information can actually make us question which route we should take. But over time, I think we all develop our own little habits behind the chair—sometimes without even realising it. One of mine is using my fingers first to stretch and guide the hair before I introduce the tools I need. Honestly, I don’t even remember when I started doing this! 😄 But I know why I do it. I don’t want to put unnecessary tension on the hair if I don’t need to. It’s become part of the way I work naturally. And I think that’s where we start developing our own signature as professionals. Learn from others. Try different techniques. Stay curious . But you don’t have to do something exactly the way someone else does it. Understand your intention, understand the hair, and find what works for you. Sometimes the little things you do without thinking are actually part of what makes your work yours. 💜What’s one little habit or technique you find yourself doing with almost every client without even thinking about it?

💜 Monday Reflection — When Life Happens Behind the Chair
We all have ups and downs in life. But one of the difficult parts of being a hairstylist is that sometimes we still have to show up and give our best to our clients while dealing with things in our own lives. Maybe you’ve lost someone you love. Maybe you’re worried about whether you’ll have enough clients this month to pay the bills. Maybe a client has complained about your service and you’ve taken it home with you. Or maybe you’re simply going through something that nobody sitting in your chair knows about. Over the years, I’ve learned that being professional doesn’t mean we have to pretend everything is perfect. Sometimes it simply means taking one client at a time, being present in that moment, and doing the best we can with what we have that day. And sometimes, surprisingly, our clients and our work can give us a little escape from whatever we’re carrying too. 💜 How do you keep going when life gets tough but you still have clients to look after? What helps you manage those feelings and still give your best behind the chair? I’d really love to hear your thoughts. 💜

Has the demand for keratin treatments changed in your salon over the last 10–15 years?
Has the demand for keratin treatments changed in your business over the last 10–15 years? Personally, I’ve noticed more clients embracing their natural texture and moving away from chemical straighteners and relaxers—which I think is wonderful. At the same time, many clients still want smoother, more manageable hair without permanently changing their natural texture. That’s why, in the right situation, I still recommend a high-quality, formaldehyde-free keratin treatment. ✨ Reduces frizz and improves manageability. ✨ Helps minimise breakage, making it easier to retain length. ✨ Doesn’t permanently change the hair’s natural texture. ✨ Can last around 4–6 months with the right aftercare. For me, every recommendation starts with the client—not the treatment. Hair type, lifestyle, maintenance, and long-term hair health always come first. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
