I created Life Lessons with Dolly because Dolly Parton’s story has always reminded me of something I deeply believe: Where you start does not get to decide where you finish. Dolly came from a tiny cabin in the mountains of Tennessee with big dreams, a whole lot of determination, and a willingness to remain herself even when the world told her who she should be. I’ll also be sharing a piece of my own Beyond Lemonade story. I grew up in a trailer park, and for a long time I thought success meant getting as far away from that life as possible. I raised two children while earning two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree, built a successful career in sports medicine, became a bestselling author…and then Multiple Sclerosis changed the life I had worked so hard to build. Turns out, some of the biggest lessons weren’t in escaping where I came from. They were in understanding what it taught me.
