The importance of COLD CALLING, tips and tricks
Before starting my dispatching journey, I ran (and still am) a insurance lead gen business, almost 90% of my closes were from cold calling. When I first started off, I was terrified of picking up the phone and dialing a number. A lot of people are this way, however I must say learning this skill is one of the most valuable things I've done for myself. Here are some tips for when you end up starting, since weather you like it or not, cold calling is inevitable 😆 Scripted, not SCRIPTED: This means that you should have a script that outlines all the key points of your service, but at the same time you NEED to be quick on your feet to be able to answer questions and handle rejections, essentially bob and weave around your prospects words. what I found helps me most is not a SCRIPT per se, but a list of bullet points which I can build my speech around, but I would only recommend this for experienced callers. Numbers negate luck: I live by this phrase, you shouldn't be discouraged by hang-ups and "no"s. Every no gets you closer to a yes, and the more calls you make the closer you are to that yes. Some people do get lucky, but the person who comes out on top is the person with the highest call time, and most amount of calls made per day, hence numbers negate luck. "With that in mind": My personal favorite closing line. "With that in mind give me your email to send you the information". "With that in mind what's the best email to send the invoice to". This single phrase has made me enough money to buy myself a nice BMW at 19. It is a call to action, and you should always end your call with one. Connect, don't sell. I have spent countless hours talking with potential clients about their dogs, kids, and regular life worries. No one wants to be sold, but everyone wants to have a conversation. your pitch should flow smoother than a river. Throw in a joke here and there, show them you are human too. be confident but not stuck up. It may be difficult at first but its quite important.
