@Marvin Greiffenberg. Subject: Update on Relocation to Ethiopia and June Visit to Addis. Good morning Marvin, I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to share an update on my plans to relocate to Africa, specifically Ethiopia. Beginning this year, I am on a three-year trajectory toward being fully rooted in Ethiopia by the end of 2029, with plans to welcome the New Year in 2030 from my new home in Addis Ababa. As part of this process, I will be in Addis Ababa for the month of June this year to explore neighborhoods and view properties with the goal of purchasing a home. If you’re aware of anyone within the group who has an Airbnb available for rent during June, I would greatly appreciate you passing along their information. I would much prefer that someone within the community benefit if possible. From an immigration standpoint, everything is already in place. I hold an Ethiopian residency card through my marriage, so I am fully cleared in that regard. By way of background, I am Jamaican with mixed West African and European ancestry and do not have a direct ancestral lineage to Ethiopia. My connection to Ethiopia is through my marriage to an Ethiopian, and I am the proud parent of twin daughters who were born in Addis Ababa. I am a retired U.S. Navy service member and currently reside in Florida. Professionally, I am a Data Scientist working for a utility company in South Florida. As I prepare for this transition, I would truly value the opportunity to schedule a consultation with Weyni and yourself at your convenience. Learning from your experiences would be incredibly helpful as I navigate this new chapter. While I am relocating, I do not plan to retire fully. I am very interested in giving back—both by teaching and by staying engaged through becoming part of the Airbnb community in East Africa. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to connecting when your schedule allows. Warm regards Herb

Yes, I’m happy to share my experience house hunting in Addis. My current experience is entirely in the U.S. market, having bought and sold homes in several states while serving in the U.S. Navy I had to relocate several times. I also have experience selling property in Florida. I’ll put together a comparison of the two markets, outlining key pros and cons. While it may be mostly relevant to a U.S. audience, it should still offer useful insights for the diaspora in other markets outside of the US and Addis. Herb
Purpose-Driven Impact in East Africa
Hi everyone! My name is Daniel. I’m Ethiopian/Eritrean and currently based in Germany. I’m passionate about growth—both personally and professionally—and about building systems that create real impact. With several years of experience as a chemical engineer, I focus on process optimization, data, and continuous improvement. Over the next 3–5 years, I’m planning to return to East Africa to contribute my experience, continue learning, and grow together with others. I’m new to this community and excited to connect, exchange ideas, and learn from like-minded people—especially around business, development, and long-term impact. Looking forward to engaging with you all!

Hello Daniel welcome to the community. Like you I am also new to the community just a few days ago and I am also planning to migrate to the mother continent in about 3 years. Specifically I am planning to migrate to Ethiopia. However unlike yourself I don’t have any direct blood line link to Ethiopia I am actually Jamaican with mixed ancestry from west Africa along with 4 other Europe nations mixture. My connection to Ethiopia is by marriage to an Ethiopian and I was blessed with twin daughters which were born in Addis Ababa. I was able to get a residency based on my marriage which makes it possible for me to migrate to Ethiopia. I currently live in the USA, Florida. Which country are you planning to move to.

@Daniel Haile yes definitely, let’s start in touch, if you ever decide on Ethiopia being your home port, I have a contact at the Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Service (ICS) office that can be a great help to you and since I just completed the process in 2024 the steps are still fresh in my memory.
