I used to build complex AI workflows first…before proving the offer, message, or funnel. When I changed this, everything improved. What I do now: Validate the offer manually first. Automate only what is repeatable and proven. Keep workflows simple and measurable. Add human touch where conversions matter Result? Better quality leads. Higher conversion rates. Way less tech chaos. Susan, this is spot on. And it hits close to home for me. I run a bread baking community, Crust & Crumb Academy on Skool, and I use AI every single day. Claude is basically my Chief of Staff. I use it for content planning, recipe development, course writing, community management workflows, all of it. But the thing that actually grows my community? Me showing up. Real conversations. Answering questions in real time during our Saturday bake-alongs. Posting a photo of my actual cinnamon roll, not an AI-generated one. People can feel the difference. Your point about validating before automating is the one most people skip. I learned this the hard way. I spent time building out complex content calendars and automated sequences before I even knew what my members actually responded to. Turns out they wanted live interaction, not polished funnels. Our bake-alongs get 400-500 comments and near-100% completion rates. No automation built that. Showing up built that. Now I automate the stuff that supports the human connection.
