Hello from Texas & Microschool Registration Question
Good morning from a snowy and frozen DFW ❄️ My name is Silviya, and I am so grateful to be part of this group. To be honest, it took me some courage to finally introduce myself. I am in the very beginning stages of opening a small microschool for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade. I recently created a Facebook business page and am planning to send a survey to local community groups to better understand interest and needs in the area. One of my biggest questions right now is this: Should I register the microschool as a private school so families can apply for Texas School Choice funding once it launches? If anyone has experience in this area, I would greatly appreciate any advice you could share. I would truly appreciate any insights or experiences you are willing to share - I am really thankful to learn from you all.

Hi Silviya, and welcome. I’m sorry for the delay in responding on my end, I was in my last week of worldschooling in Portugal and tried to stay off my phone and be really present. I wanted to share this link because Texas has started publishing details about the Education Freedom Accounts program: https://educationfreedom.texas.gov/ From what’s currently published, families can use TEFA funds for private school tuition, tutoring, and other approved educational services, but schools do need to be approved providers. For private schools specifically, the requirements include accreditation, being in operation for at least two years, and administering a norm-referenced assessment, so that’s something to consider when deciding whether to register immediately or phase into that later. Another path some microschools are considering is starting as a provider or vendor first (offering classes or services families can pay for with ESA funds) while building toward private school status, since provider applications are opening more broadly as the program rolls out. You’re absolutely on the right track with surveying families first, that step helps clarify demand and pricing before committing to structure. Happy to share what I’ve seen founders do in other states if it would help.
What stage are you in?
Would love to know where everyone is at! Please comment your biggest “stuck” point too if you feel comfortable to share! We would love to help you get unstuck!

For those planning, what’s your biggest hurdle?
Microschool founders… real talk for a minute.
Running a microschool isn’t hard because of the kids. It’s hard because of the operations. Enrollment tracking Parent communication Schedules and systems ESA and funding logistics Policies, forms, onboarding All the tiny things that quietly eat your time Most founders end up doing this alone, figuring it out as they go, reinventing systems that already exist somewhere. That’s exactly why I started the Microschool Ops Collective. This is a space for founders who want: • Simple systems that actually work • Templates and playbooks you can use immediately • Weekly structure and accountability • Practical help, not theory • A community of people building real programs, not just talking about it Inside, I share the exact operational tools, workflows, and checklists I’ve used building programs, supporting founders nationwide, and running my own microschool. If you’re in the stage where the vision is clear but the day-to-day systems feel messy or overwhelming, this is for you. You don’t have to run your school alone. @Rosana Cundill amazing! It’s so wonderful to see the microschool movement spreading across the pond! It’s so intrinsic to how humans were meant to live and raise children that I’m never surprised when we find it naturally out of need for our own children. Let us know how we can support your journey. I’m over in Portugal worldschooling and so many here are just hearing of this for the first time, but it aligns perfectly with worldschooling!
Q&A tonight + support if you’re feeling stuck
Hi founders 🤍 Quick reminder that Q&A is tonight at 7:00pm EST. I’m really looking forward to connecting and hearing where you’re at. I also want to name something I’m seeing a lot right now, especially from folks aiming for August or Fall openings. Many of you are so close, but self-doubt, overwhelm, or the weight of everything happening in the world is slowing things down. That doesn’t mean you’re behind. It usually means you care. Because of that, I’ve kept my support intentionally low-barrier and flexible, so getting help doesn’t require big commitments or perfect readiness. Ways to work with me (outside of Skool) https://calendly.com/consulting-with-heather/microschool_consulting 30-Minute Clarity Call – $77 Great if you need help deciding next steps, pressure-testing an idea, or getting unstuck on one specific thing. Monthly Support (cancel anytime): • Starter, $150 – 3 calls/month • Growth, $225 – 4 calls/month + 3 text questions (most popular for active launchers) • Full Support, $325 – weekly calls + 6 text support questions + templates/resources This is for founders who want real guidance, honest feedback, and help focusing on what actually matters right now, not hype or hustle. Prefer DIY? I also have playbooks for founders who want to move at their own pace: • Microschool Checklist – step-by-step setup clarity https://microschoolmama.gumroad.com/l/xsomn • Microschool 101 Starter – big-picture foundation + practical decisions https://microschoolmama.gumroad.com/l/vwiit They’re designed to reduce overwhelm and help you take action without reinventing the wheel. No pressure, no gatekeeping. Start where you are. If you’re feeling wobbly, bring it to Q&A tonight. If you want one-on-one support, you can book anytime. If all you can do right now is listen, that counts too. You’re not doing this alone 🖤
