@Joshua inJapan The plan was China, or maybe Taiwan. However as I was doing my research I always came back to "or I could just go back to Japan...." I have invested quite a bit in just getting familiar with Japanese, I don't have a natural talent for languages, so I don't even want to try to tackle mandarin and there are so many places I have not seen yet in Japan. So I am thinking I will go back in 2027. And probably try to be there during one of the sumo bashos so I can experience that and find a good sumo friendly izakaya to hang out in on days when I dont actually go to the basho. That sounds like a lot of fun. I missed out on opportunities to hike the Nakasendo trail and to do more around Biwa and the Japanese alps. The furthest south I got was Osaka, I would like to go to Kobe, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.
