The child I couldn't figure out changed my life
WHY THIS CONVERSATION ABOUT TRAUMA & NEURODIVERGENCE IS PERSONAL FOR ME Before you watch my conversation with Kim Botto, I wanted to share why this topic matters so deeply to me. For years, I believed that if I just found the right discipline strategy, my son's behavior would improve. But as a mom of a neurodivergent child, I eventually realized the problem wasn't a lack of effort—it was a lack of understanding. What changed everything for me was learning that behavior is communication. The parenting skills I had weren't helping my son thrive, and they weren't helping me become the parent I wanted to be. When I stopped viewing behavior as something to control and started viewing it as something to understand, it changed not only my parenting, but the way I lead, teach, and care for children. In this short prequel episode, I share the personal journey that led me to become passionate about trauma-informed and neurodiversity-informed ministry, parenting, and leadership. If you're a parent, children's ministry leader, teacher, volunteer, or caregiver, I hope this encourages you to look beyond behavior and lean into curiosity. šŸŽ™ļø Watch my full conversation with Kim Botto: • https://youtu.be/LM2z6wvLuc0?si=5vw4JrwCOE5RBS0r

This all begins with an INTRODUCTION. Comment below... your name, state or country and how we can best support you or pray for you!

I promised I wouldn't post this episode until Orange curriculum and amazing life finished posting their own videos on the dude perfect VBS announcement. I gotta say... this is HUGE! I loved spending 1 hour with Tyler, asking him big questions on Kid's ministry and the direction amazing life kids and orange curriculum is going. If you use any of these curriculum in the past or currently, you should hear from the CEO. Tyler is gifted, humble, and an encouragement to my faith walk! A guide for teen helpers
Happy Sunday, kid's ministry champions! I have been in the snowy lands of Montana this weekend and began working on a project for my friend in San Diego. She said that she's struggling to find an easy way to get teen helpers serving where it's a win for both teacher and teen. Is this a problem for you? I'm trying to get feedback from all types of churches so I can make a well-rounded guide. Please send me your comments!

@Martha Alexander I'm going to get some good stats going for these parents. Thank you for sharing this.

I have the first draft for a PDF for LEADERS. I'm thinking it's easier to have a separate handout for teens. The first two images are what WE should communicate to the teens. The third and fourth image is something for us leaders to follow as we lead teens. If we continue to treat teens as someone that should be seen and not heard, we won't SEE OR HEAR from them after they leave the church. That worries me a lot.
