Disengagement isn't defiance. It's a sign.
A sign that something needs to shift. A sign that your child is overwhelmed, stuck, or quietly switching off. And a sign that you need support, too. If your child is: – Rushing through work just to get it over with – Struggling with motivation or melting down when it’s time to revise – Saying ā€œI don’t know what to doā€ more than you’d like – Or you're deep in 11 Plus prep and wondering how to keep things calm and consistent… Please come to our session this Sunday at 7pm. All those booked will receive the Zoom link and workbook via email tomorrow. It’s called Engaging Disengaged Learners for Success, led by Louise Holland – educational leader, former Ofsted inspector, and head of an engineering college. She knows both the primary and secondary systems inside out, and how to help children become confident, independent learners. If you’re already part of our Year 4 or Year 5 Learning Journey programmes, this session is completely free. The Zoom link will be on your calendar in Skool, and the workbook will be uploaded to your respective Learning Vault. For everyone else, it’s just Ā£10.50 for an hour that could truly shift how you support your child – and how your child shows up for their learning. You’ll get a powerful session, a practical workbook, and real strategies that can help you re-engage your child without pressure or power struggles. Book your place now https://the11plusjourney.co.uk/product/engaging-disengaged-learners-live-parent-workshop/ Because this isn’t about adding more pressure. It’s about lifting it- for you and your child @everyone

Hi, Sabah. I can’t see the Zoom link in the Skool calendar, only those for the year 4 and year 5 lessons. Please advise.

@Sabah Hadi thanks 😊
Comprehension Challenge Starts on Monday!
EDIT: for our LJ parents, the workbook is in the comprehension mastery course in the classroom NOT THE LEARNING VAULT as mentioned before. We’re all set for the Comprehension Challenge starting on Monday at 4 PM sharp! (Actually, let’s make it 3:55 PM so we can start on time! ā°) Over 70 children are joining—how exciting! Each session runs until 4:30 PM. šŸ”¹ For children in our Learning Journey programmes: This challenge is free, and there is NO NEED to register. The Zoom link is in the calendar, and the workbook is in the vocabulary mastery course in the classroom. šŸŽ‰ Two Free Spots for Deserving Families I’ve decided to offer two free tickets to this challenge for families who truly need it. Sheena is just as excited that we can make this happen! šŸ‘‰ If your child would benefit from this challenge but finances are a barrier, message me privately with your phone number and a brief reason why. Everything will be kept confidential, but I will ask for evidence to ensure fairness. āš ļø If you can afford it, please don’t request a free place. We all love free things, but this is for families who truly need the support. ā³ Deadline: You have 8 hours to message me! This is first come, first served, so don’t wait! I’ll be emailing all registered participants by tonight with the Zoom link and details. I won’t be able to send another round of emails, so act fast! ā— Missed Out on This Challenge? Don’t worry—we’ve got something coming just for you! Keep an eye on your inbox because we’ll be sharing another exciting opportunity soon. Stay tuned! šŸ“šāœØ Let’s get your child better at comprehension! See many of you on Monday!

@Sabah Hadi inference is still very tricky. She needs help with every step of the activities and I’m not sure whether she’s genuinely struggling or just not wanting to make enough of an effort/wants to be spoon fed the information. Also not patient enough to watch the recordings. Hence my FB post the other day wondering whether I should pursue this or not. I even considered changing my hours to part time to allow more study time after school as doing extra learning after a long day is adding pressure on her.

@Sabah Hadi I tried to provide a distraction free environment at home and she still managed to distract herself with her pencil’s shadow so I wonder if she’ll be able to focus on 11 plus at the park šŸ˜… thank you for the suggestion though!
Educator Session for November: Bringing Words to Life
The celebrated author of the Cadwaladr Quests and Chronicles series Sheena Ager is hosting a family vocabulary session on Wednesday, 27th November at 5:30 PM. Sheena will lead an interactive discussion on using words from books in everyday conversations, showing how vocabulary can become a natural part of life. This approach not only enhances communication but also makes mastering 11-plus vocabulary easier! There will be a special focus on contranyms. Before the session: A sample CHAPTER from Sheena’s book Tangled Time is available in the Learning Vault of your child's year group. Please read it in advance to prepare. During the session, Sheena will explore creative ways to bring the words to life in daily interactions. After the session, you will receive a replay of the session and two bonus documents to take away that Sheena has prepared for you. Warning: This session is free for families in our year 4 and year 5 programmes. You don't need to pay for this session if you have joined. So this is for parents and children to attend together?
If you had 30 minutes a day…
How would you structure your child’s 11+ schedule? We walk out at 8:30 am and return home at 6 pm. Between dinner, shower time, and a bedtime routine, I pretty much only have 30 minutes a day for homework.

Fit for 11+?
How can you tell whether your child is genuinely fit for 11+? My daughter is keen to learn but after about 6 weeks of starting 11+ preparation I realised that she needs a lot of support getting the basics right first. She still doesn’t know all her times tables and tackling 11+ topics feels like such a steep learning curve. I almost feel cheated by her school reports now, I thought she was at a better level than she actually is (or perhaps my expectations are too high?). Did anyone consider practicing the basic national curriculum at home before moving on to 11+? If so, which books and resources would be best? My daughter is in year 4.
