Why I hardly finish reading any books
I noticed something interesting. When asked about the books I have read, or am reading atm, I realised that quite a lot of them are laying on my bookshelf. Waiting, collecting dust.. Why is it that when I try to finish books, I forget most of them? And I have to re-read x chapters before I’m again aware of the storyline. But when I read to grasp a certain concept, I remember it for years. I found out that when we look for ideas and concepts, they can change how we see things. How we learn things. Books are not just pages to complete. They can be a tool for reflecting on how we see things.. Very curious how others approach learning. Do you read to finish books, or to extract ideas?

Small experiment for this community.
Pick something simple you do regularly. Making coffee. Cooking. Working out. Learning something new. Now ask yourself: What are the principles behind it? What actually makes it work? I’ve noticed that once you see the principles, the steps suddenly feel much more logical. Tell me, what’s something you’d like to understand better?

Why I wrote my first book.
Over time, I noticed that many problems, whether in work, learning, or everyday life, were not caused by a lack of information, but by a lack of understanding of the underlying concepts. I began collecting observations, questions, and small insights about how people think, how patterns repeat across different domains, and why some ideas suddenly make complex things feel simple. These notes gradually turned into a personal exploration of conceptual thinking: the ability to recognize patterns, connect ideas, and understand systems instead of isolated facts. As these reflections accumulated, a structure began to emerge. What started as scattered thoughts evolved into a framework for thinking more clearly about the world. Writing the book became a way to organize that exploration and share the process of learning to see concepts behind everyday situations. The result is not just a guide to conceptual thinking, but a reflection of the journey that led to discovering it. https://www.amazon.nl/CONCEPTUEEL-DENKEN-helder-systemisch-denken-ebook/dp/B0G6TM4H3F

🧠 Welcome to The Concept Lab
Most places online focus on quick answers. 🔬 This place is different. Here we try to understand how things actually work. Think of this community as a laboratory for ideas. We take everyday topics — decisions, habits, skills, systems, even simple things like cooking — and explore the concepts behind them. 🧩 We break things down. 🔎 Look for patterns. 🧪 Test ideas. 🧠 And rebuild our understanding. You don't need to be an expert here. Curiosity is enough. 🚀 First experiment: What is something in everyday life you wish you understood better?
