The gatsby shot!
An easy shot that always looks great is having your subject hold out a cocktail in front and capturing it at a nice 2.8 to 3.5 aperture. Single light set up with a soft box angle down on a 45° angle. Always remember to tell them to slightly tip the cocktail forward so that you can see the whole rim and garnish on top. I call this the ā€œGatsby shot.ā€

I'm interested!
Your stories need a prime position in a bookstore, not a kitchen drawer.
We all have that "someday" dream. Someday, I’ll organise these recipes. Someday, I’ll tell the story behind my grandmother’s Sunday roast. Someday, I’ll see my name on a book cover. But for most foodies, "someday" is where dreams go to stall. Why? Because the publishing world feels like a locked door. You’re left wondering: - Are my words good enough? - Do I need an agent? - How do I even write a book proposal that doesn’t get ignored? The truth is, you don’t need a miracle; you need a roadmap. I’ve distilled the entire process — from your messy kitchen notes to a polished, professional manuscript—into a blueprint. No more guessing. No more "someday." I’m looking for 10 foodies who are ready to turn their recipes into a legacy this year.

I'm wondering: what makes someone stop scrolling on food content?
I think it's not always the cleanest shot.Or the most polished edit. It’s the moment that feels real. The steam rising.The hesitation before the first bite.The texture you can almost feel through the screen. That’s what turns content into something people remember —not just watch. šŸ‘‰ I'm sincerely curious:What’s one detail you’ve captured that made your content feel alive? Would love to hear.

@Zack Perl You're spot on!
I THINK GREAT FOOD CONTENT ISN’T JUST SEEN — IT’S FELT.
I’m new here, and I’m really impressed by the level of creativity and craft in this space. There’s so much intention behind how food and drinks are captured. It actually makes me think about how visuals and words can work together to create something even more powerful.

@Zack Perl food writing has always been so much more than just 'delicious'. At its core it's sensuous - using all the senses to describe a dish or a culinary experience.
